1. Setup Guide
1.1 Package Contents
Before you begin, please ensure all items are present in your package:
- Satechi SM1 75% Mechanical Keyboard
- 2 Windows Keycaps
- 2 Alt Keycaps (Left and Right)
- USB-C to USB-C Cable (1.2m / 3.2ft)
- 2.4GHz USB Receiver (attached to the bottom of the keyboard)
- User Manual (this document)
1.2 Initial Charging
The Satechi SM1 keyboard comes with a rechargeable battery. For optimal performance, it is recommended to fully charge the keyboard before first use. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the keyboard's USB-C port and the other end to a compatible power source (e.g., computer USB port, wall adapter). A full charge typically takes a couple of hours, providing many weeks of usage.
1.3 Connectivity Modes
The Satechi SM1 keyboard supports up to four simultaneous device connections across multiple modes:
- Wired Mode: Connect directly via the USB-C cable.
- 2.4GHz USB Receiver Mode: Use the included USB receiver for a stable wireless connection.
- Bluetooth Mode (2 Channels): Connect wirelessly via Bluetooth to two separate devices.
Switch between these modes by holding the FN key and pressing the corresponding number key:
- FN + 1 or FN + 2 for Bluetooth connections.
- FN + 3 for 2.4GHz USB Receiver connection.
- FN + 4 for Wired mode.

2. Operating Instructions
2.1 Backlight Control
The Satechi SM1 features an LED backlight with 14 customizable patterns and three brightness levels. To adjust the backlight:
- Increase brightness: Press F5.
- Decrease brightness: Press F6.
- Turn backlight on/off: Press and hold the light bulb key (usually F7 or a dedicated key) for 5 seconds.
In USB mode, the backlight will automatically turn off when the keyboard is idle to conserve energy and reactivate upon typing.

2.2 Keycap Swapping
The Satechi SM1 keyboard features removable keycaps, allowing for customization. The package includes additional Windows and Alt keycaps to replace Mac-specific keys if desired. To swap keycaps, gently pull the existing keycap upwards until it detaches, then align and press down the new keycap until it clicks into place.

2.3 System Compatibility
The Satechi SM1 keyboard is designed for wide compatibility with various operating systems and devices. To switch between Mac/iPadOS/iOS and PC modes, hold for 3 seconds:
- FN + O for Mac/iPadOS/iOS.
- FN + P for PC (Windows).
The keyboard's Windows keys ("Win", "alt", "alt") can replace the Mac "CMD" and "Opt" keys when in PC mode.

3. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Satechi SM1 keyboard, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to wipe down the keycaps and keyboard surface. Avoid excessive moisture.
- Dust Removal: Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps and under the keys.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the keyboard in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Avoid Spills: Keep liquids away from the keyboard to prevent damage to internal components.
4. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Satechi SM1 keyboard, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Keyboard Not Responding:
- Ensure the keyboard is charged. A flashing spacebar backlight indicates low battery.
- Verify the correct connectivity mode (FN + 1/2/3/4) is selected for your device.
- For Bluetooth, ensure the keyboard is paired correctly and within range. Try re-pairing if necessary.
- For USB receiver mode, ensure the receiver is securely plugged into your device.
- For wired mode, ensure the USB-C cable is firmly connected at both ends.
- Backlight Issues:
- Ensure the backlight is not turned off (light bulb key).
- Adjust brightness levels using F5 and F6.
- If the spacebar backlight is flashing, the battery is low and needs charging.
- Keys Not Registering:
- Check for any debris or obstructions under the keycaps.
- Ensure the keyboard is in the correct operating system mode (FN + O for Mac/iOS, FN + P for PC).
