4. Setup and Fueling

Proper fuel mixture and starting procedures are crucial for optimal performance and longevity.

4.1 Fuel Mixing

This trimmer uses a 2-cycle engine and requires a mixture of gasoline and 2-cycle engine oil. Refer to the engine oil manufacturer's instructions for the correct mixing ratio, typically 50:1 (2.6 oz of oil per gallon of gasoline) or 40:1 (3.2 oz of oil per gallon of gasoline).

  • Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 89 or higher.
  • Use high-quality 2-cycle engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines.
  • Mix fuel in an approved fuel container. Shake the container thoroughly before fueling the trimmer.

4.2 Fueling the Trimmer

  1. Ensure the engine is cool and turned off.
  2. Place the trimmer on a flat, stable surface.
  3. Carefully open the fuel cap.
  4. Pour the mixed fuel into the fuel tank, avoiding overfilling.
  5. Securely replace the fuel cap. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your trimmer.

6.1 Air Filter Cleaning

The air filter should be checked and cleaned regularly, especially in dusty conditions.

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  2. Locate the tool-less air filter cover.
  3. Remove the cover and carefully take out the air filter.
  4. Clean the filter by tapping it gently or washing it with warm, soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstallation. Replace if heavily soiled or damaged.

6.2 Spark Plug Inspection

Inspect the spark plug periodically for wear or carbon buildup.

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wire.
  2. Use the provided spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug.
  3. Clean any carbon deposits with a wire brush. Check the electrode gap and adjust if necessary (refer to specifications for correct gap). Replace if worn or damaged.

6.3 Trimmer Line Replacement

The trimmer head uses .095-inch diameter line. Replace the line when it becomes too short or worn.

  1. Ensure the engine is off and the spark plug wire is disconnected.
  2. Locate the bump feed head. Depending on the head design, you may need to press tabs or unscrew a cap to access the spool.
  3. Remove any remaining old line.
  4. Cut a new length of .095-inch trimmer line (typically 15-20 feet).
  5. Follow the arrows on the trimmer head to correctly wind the new line onto the spool. Leave a few inches of line protruding from the eyelets.
  6. Reassemble the trimmer head.
