4.2 Using the CHI Original Ceramic Hair Straightener

  1. Turn the flat iron ON using the analog switch. The indicator light will illuminate.
  2. Allow the iron to heat up to the desired temperature. The maximum temperature is 392°F (202°C).
  3. Section your hair into manageable portions, approximately 1-2 inches wide.
  4. For Straightening:
    • Take one section of hair and place it between the ceramic plates, close to the roots.
    • Gently clamp the plates together and glide the iron slowly and steadily down the entire length of the hair section, from roots to ends.
    • Repeat on other sections until desired straightness is achieved. Avoid passing over the same section too many times to prevent heat damage.
  5. For Curling or Waving:
    • Take one section of hair and clamp it between the plates, about halfway down the section.
    • Rotate the iron 180 degrees (either towards or away from your face) and gently pull the iron downwards through the hair, maintaining the rotation.
    • The speed at which you pull the iron will determine the tightness of the curl or wave. Slower movements create tighter curls, faster movements create looser waves.
    • Alternatively, you can wrap sections of hair around the outside of the closed iron and hold for a few seconds before releasing for soft curls.
  6. After styling, turn the flat iron OFF using the analog switch and unplug it from the outlet.
  7. Allow the iron to cool completely before storing.

  3. For stubborn residue (e.g., hair product build-up), use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the ceramic coating.
