2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating the generator. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.
- Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide (CO), an odorless, colorless, and poisonous gas. Operate the generator ONLY outdoors and far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never use inside a home, garage, or any enclosed or semi-enclosed area. The GXS5000D includes a CO Sensor Shutdown feature for added safety.
- Fire Hazard: Fuel is highly flammable. Store fuel in approved containers in a well-ventilated area. Do not refuel while the engine is running or hot.
- Electrical Shock Hazard: Never operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all connections are secure and properly grounded.
- Hot Surfaces: The generator's engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid contact with hot surfaces.
3. Unpacking and Assembly
Your generator comes with essential components for initial setup. Carefully unpack all items and ensure nothing is missing.
- Remove the generator and all accessories from the packaging.
- Attach the wheels and support feet as per the Quick Start Guide.
- Add the provided engine oil to the crankcase. Do not overfill.
- Connect the battery terminals (if applicable for electric start models).

- CO Sensor Indicator Light: Alerts to dangerous carbon monoxide levels.
- Data Center Display: Shows voltage, frequency, and hours of operation.
- AC Outlets: Includes 2 x 5-20R duplex 20 Amp 120-Volt, 1 x L5-30R 30 Amp 120-Volt, and 1 x L14-30R 120-Volt/240-Volt 30 Amp twistlock.
- Fuel Selector Switch: Allows switching between gasoline and propane.
- Engine Switch: On/Off switch for the engine.
5. Fueling the Generator
The GXS5000D operates on both gasoline and propane. Always ensure the generator is off and cooled before fueling.
5.1. Gasoline Operation
- Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
- Open the fuel cap and slowly pour gasoline into the fuel tank (6.3-gallon capacity).
- Do not overfill. Leave space for fuel expansion.
- Securely close the fuel cap.
5.2. Propane (LPG) Operation
- Connect the provided LPG hose regulator to a standard 20 lbs. propane tank.
- Connect the other end of the hose to the generator's propane inlet.
- Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Slowly open the valve on the propane tank.

6. Starting the Generator
Follow these steps to start your generator based on the chosen fuel type.
6.1. Starting on Gasoline
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all electrical loads are disconnected.
- Turn the fuel selector switch to the 'Gasoline' position.
- Move the choke lever to the 'Choke' position (if the engine is cold).
- Turn the engine switch to 'ON'.
- Pull the recoil start handle firmly and steadily until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the 'Run' position.
6.2. Starting on Propane (LPG)
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all electrical loads are disconnected.
- Ensure the propane tank is connected and the valve is open.
- Turn the fuel selector switch to the 'Propane' position.
- Move the choke lever to the 'Choke' position (if the engine is cold).
- Turn the engine switch to 'ON'.
- Pull the recoil start handle firmly and steadily until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the 'Run' position.
7. Operating the Generator
Once the generator is running, you can connect your electrical devices.
- Connecting Devices: Plug your devices into the appropriate AC outlets. Do not overload the generator.
- Eco Mode: The generator may feature an Eco mode switch. Engaging this mode can reduce engine speed, lowering fuel consumption and noise levels when the load is light.
- Monitoring: Regularly check the data center display for voltage, frequency, and runtime. Pay attention to the CO sensor indicator light.

8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your generator.
- Oil Changes: Check engine oil level before each use. Change oil after the first 20 hours of operation, then every 100 hours or annually.
- Air Filter: Inspect and clean the air filter regularly. Replace if damaged.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug annually or every 100 hours. Replace if necessary.
- Fuel System: If storing for an extended period, drain the gasoline from the tank and carburetor to prevent fuel degradation. For propane, simply close the tank valve.
9. Troubleshooting
If your generator encounters issues, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips. For detailed solutions, consult the full user manual.
- Engine Not Starting: Check fuel level, engine oil level, spark plug, and ensure the engine switch is 'ON' and choke is correctly set.
- No Power Output: Check circuit breakers on the control panel. Ensure no overload condition exists.
- CO Sensor Shutdown: If the CO sensor light is on and the generator shuts down, move the generator to a well-ventilated area and allow it to cool before restarting.
