1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the VTech XS1051 Cordless DECT Phone. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your new phone system. The VTech XS1051 is designed for reliable communication, featuring an antibacterial surface, a digital answering machine, caller ID, and a volume amplifier for enhanced clarity.

2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Before installation, ensure all items are present in your package. Please refer to your product packaging for a complete list of contents.

2.2 Connecting the Base Unit

  1. Connect the telephone line cord to the base unit and a telephone wall jack.
  2. Plug the power adapter into the base unit and a power outlet.
  3. Place the base unit on a flat, stable surface.

2.3 Handset Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of each handset.
  2. Insert the supplied NiMH rechargeable batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover.
  4. Place each handset in its respective charging cradle (main base or secondary charger). The charge indicator on the handset should illuminate.
  5. Allow the handsets to charge for at least 16 hours before initial use to ensure full battery capacity.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Making and Receiving Calls

  • To Make a Call: Press the Talk button, then dial the number. Alternatively, dial the number first, then press Talk.
  • To Receive a Call: When the phone rings, press the Talk button.
  • To End a Call: Press the End button or place the handset back in its cradle.

3.2 Digital Answering Machine

The integrated digital answering machine can record messages for up to 30 minutes when you are unable to answer calls.

  • Activating/Deactivating: Use the dedicated button on the base unit or through the handset menu.
  • Playing Messages: Press the Play button on the base unit or access through the handset menu.

3.3 Caller ID and Call History

The phone displays the caller's number and name (if available) for incoming calls. It stores a history of up to 20 incoming calls.

3.4 Volume Amplifier

The volume amplifier function increases the incoming audio volume for improved clarity, particularly beneficial for users with hearing impairments or those who prefer a louder listening experience.

  • Activating: During a call, press the dedicated amplifier button (often marked with an ear icon) or adjust through the handset menu.

3.5 Hands-Free Speakerphone

Engage the hands-free speakerphone function for convenient conversations without holding the handset.

  • Activating: During a call, press the Speakerphone button. Press it again to switch back to the handset earpiece.

3.6 Phonebook and Speed Dial

Store up to 100 names and numbers in the phonebook. Utilize 8 speed dial keys for quick access to frequently called contacts.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Phone

The VTech XS1051 is made with antibacterial plastic, tested to inhibit 99% of bacterial growth. Its seamless design makes it easy to clean and disinfect.

  • Wipe the phone's surface with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh cleaning agents or abrasive materials, as these can damage the surface.
  • Ensure the phone is dry before placing it back in the charging cradle.

4.2 Battery Care

  • Use only the specified rechargeable NiMH batteries.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. They may explode.
  • Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause burns or injury.
  • Dispose of batteries according to local regulations.

5. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your VTech XS1051, please try the following solutions:

  • No Dial Tone: Ensure the telephone line cord is securely connected to both the base unit and the wall jack. Check if the power adapter is properly connected.
  • Handset Not Charging: Verify that the handset is correctly seated in the charging cradle and that the power adapter is plugged in. Clean the charging contacts on both the handset and cradle with a dry cloth.
  • Poor Sound Quality: Ensure the handset is within range of the base unit. Check for interference from other electronic devices. If using the volume amplifier, ensure it is set to a comfortable level.
  • Answering Machine Not Recording: Check if the answering machine is activated. Ensure there is sufficient recording time available.
  • Handset Display is Blank: Ensure the batteries are correctly installed and fully charged.
