Setup
Initial Time and Date Setting
- Unscrew the Crown: Gently unscrew the crown (located at the 3 o'clock position) counter-clockwise until it is free from the case.
- Pull Crown to Position 2 (Date Setting): Pull the crown out to the first click position. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the date. Adjust the date to the day before the current date, as you will set the time by advancing the hands past midnight.
- Pull Crown to Position 3 (Time Setting): Pull the crown out to the second click position. The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Advance the hands past 12 o'clock to ensure the date changes, indicating it is midnight (AM). Continue to set the time to the current hour and minute.
- Push and Screw Down Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into the case and screw it down clockwise firmly to ensure water resistance.
Setting the GMT Hand
The GMT hand (the orange hand with a triangular tip) can be set to a second time zone, typically Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or any other desired time zone.
- Unscrew and Pull Crown to Position 2: Unscrew the crown and pull it out to the first click position (date setting position).
- Adjust GMT Hand: While in this position, turning the crown in one direction (e.g., counter-clockwise) will adjust the GMT hand independently in one-hour increments. Turn the crown until the GMT hand points to the desired hour on the 24-hour scale printed on the outer edge of the dial.
- Push and Screw Down Crown: Once the GMT hand is set, push the crown back in and screw it down firmly to maintain water resistance.
Operating the Watch
Reading the Time
The primary time is indicated by the hour and minute hands on the main 12-hour dial. The second hand tracks seconds.
Reading the GMT Time
The GMT hand points to the 24-hour scale on the outer rim of the dial. This allows you to read the time in a second time zone at a glance. For example, if the GMT hand points to '18', it indicates 6 PM in the second time zone.
Luminescence
The hands and markers of your Torgoen T9 watch are treated with non-radioactive luminescence. To activate, expose the watch dial to a strong light source (natural or artificial) for a few minutes. The luminescence will then glow in the dark for up to 8 hours, providing excellent readability in low-light conditions.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Regularly clean your watch with a soft, dry cloth. For water-resistant models, after exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and dry thoroughly. Ensure the crown is fully screwed down before rinsing.
Strap Care
The genuine Italian leather strap should be kept dry. Avoid prolonged exposure to water, direct sunlight, and harsh chemicals, as these can damage the leather. If the strap becomes wet, allow it to air dry naturally, away from direct heat.
Battery Replacement
The Torgoen T9 uses a Swiss quartz movement powered by a battery. When the battery is low, the second hand may start to jump in two or four-second intervals (End-of-Life indicator). Battery replacement should be performed by a qualified watchmaker to ensure proper sealing and maintain water resistance.
Water Resistance Guidelines
| Water Resistance Rating | Activity | Suitability |
|---|---|---|
| 10 ATM / 100 Meters / 330 Feet | Daily use, hand washing, rain, showering, swimming, snorkeling | Suitable |
| Diving, high-impact water sports | Not Suitable |
Important: Do not operate the crown or pushers when the watch is wet or submerged, as this can compromise water resistance.
Troubleshooting
- Watch Not Running:
Check if the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down. If the watch still does not run, the battery may need replacement. Consult a professional watchmaker.
- Time or Date Not Changing:
Ensure the crown is pulled out to the correct position for setting. If the issue persists after setting, the movement may require inspection by a professional.
- Condensation Under Crystal:
Small amounts of condensation may appear temporarily with sudden temperature changes. If condensation persists or appears as large droplets, it indicates a loss of water resistance. Immediately take the watch to a qualified service center to prevent internal damage.
- Strap Discomfort or Damage:
Ensure the strap is not too tight. If the leather strap shows signs of significant wear or damage, it can be replaced. Torgoen offers interchangeable straps.
