Introduction

Welcome to the user manual for your new BLACK+DECKER Pearl Iron, model IR2398. This iron is designed for efficient and effortless garment care, featuring a pearl-infused ceramic soleplate for smooth gliding and powerful steam functions. Please read these instructions carefully before using your iron for the first time and keep them for future reference.

Setup

1. Initial Inspection

Before first use, carefully unpack the iron and remove all packaging materials. Inspect the iron for any signs of damage. If any damage is found, do not use the iron and contact customer service.

2. Filling the Water Tank

  1. Ensure the iron is unplugged from the power outlet.
  2. Open the water fill cover located on the top of the iron.
  3. Using a measuring cup, carefully pour tap water into the extra-large 315ml water tank. Do not overfill.
  4. Close the water fill cover securely.

The extra-large opening and 315ml capacity of the water tank (as shown in the image below) minimize the need for frequent refills, allowing for longer ironing sessions.

3. Connecting to Power

Plug the iron's 8-foot power cord into a standard electrical outlet. The iron features a 360-degree pivoting cord for ease of movement during ironing.

Operating the Iron

1. Temperature Control

The iron features a Fabric and Temperature Dial (as shown below) to select the appropriate heat setting for your garment. Rotate the dial to align with the fabric type you are ironing. Settings range from synthetic to cotton, wool, and blends.

2. Steam Functions

  • Continuous Steam: For constant steam, slide the steam lever to the desired steam level.
  • Steam Shot: Press the steam shot button for an extra burst of steam to tackle stubborn wrinkles.
  • Vertical Steam: The powerful steam function allows for vertical steaming to freshen hanging garments, drapes, or upholstery. Hold the iron upright and press the steam shot button.
  • Spray Mist: Use the spray mist button to lightly dampen fabrics for easier wrinkle removal.

The iron's pearl-infused ceramic soleplate ensures 50% smoother gliding over fabrics, making ironing effortless and efficient. The soleplate is durable and scratch-resistant, providing even heat distribution.

3. Auto Shut-Off

For safety and peace of mind, the iron is equipped with a 3-way auto shut-off feature. It automatically turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity if left on its soleplate or side, or after 8 minutes if left upright on its heel rest.

Maintenance

1. Auto-Clean Function

The Pearl Glide Iron has an integrated auto-clean function to help prevent limescale buildup. To use, fill the water tank, set the iron to its highest temperature, and once hot, hold it over a sink. Press and hold the auto-clean button to purge water and scale through the steam holes.

2. General Cleaning

  • Always unplug the iron and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner if necessary.
  • Clean the exterior of the iron with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

3. Emptying Water Tank

After each use, it is recommended to empty any remaining water from the tank to prevent mineral buildup and prolong the life of your iron.
