Camco Rhino Camper/RV Sewer Macerator Pump System Model 39040 User Manual

Instructions for Setup, Operation, and Maintenance

1. Introduction

The Camco Rhino Camper/RV Sewer Macerator Pump System is designed to simplify RV waste disposal. Utilizing VortexCore Technology, this system pulverizes sewer waste into 1/8-inch particles, allowing for efficient pumping through a standard 3/4-inch ID garden hose. This provides flexibility for waste disposal over longer distances or uphill, reducing reliance on traditional RV sewer hoses and campground dump stations.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, injury, or death.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection, when handling RV waste.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free before operating the pump.
  • Do not operate the pump if any part is damaged or appears to be malfunctioning.
  • Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
  • The pump is designed for 12V DC power. Do not connect to other power sources.
  • Avoid running the pump dry for extended periods, as this can cause damage.
  • Dispose of RV waste in accordance with local regulations and environmental guidelines.

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your macerator pump system:

  1. Connect to RV Sewer Outlet: Attach the 4-in-1 adapter to your RV's sewer outlet. The adapter is designed to fit 4-inch, 3 1/2-inch, and 3-inch sewer outlets. Ensure a tight and secure connection to prevent leaks.
  2. Attach Macerator Pump: Connect the macerator pump unit to the 4-in-1 adapter. Twist to lock it into place.
  3. Connect Discharge Hose: Attach a 3/4-inch ID standard garden hose (not included, unless using the included 15-foot water hose for rinsing) to the pump's discharge port. Route the hose to your desired disposal location (e.g., septic tank, sewer cleanout, portable tank). The system is capable of pumping up to 10 feet vertically.
  4. Connect Power: Use the provided 30-foot power cord with battery clamps to connect the pump to a 12V DC power source, such as your RV battery. Ensure correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative). Alternatively, use the power cord with the on/off switch and extender for shorter connections.
  5. Prepare for Rinsing (Optional): If you plan to rinse your tanks, connect the 15-foot water hose to the clear rinse cap on the 4-in-1 adapter and to a freshwater source.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the system is set up, follow these steps for waste disposal:

  1. Open RV Waste Valve: Ensure the RV's black water tank valve is open.
  2. Activate Pump: Turn on the macerator pump using the on/off switch on the power cord. The self-priming 12V DC motor will begin to operate, pulverizing and pumping the waste. The pump has a flow capacity of 12 gallons per minute (GPM).
  3. Monitor Operation: Allow the black water tank to empty completely. The pump is designed with run-dry protection, high-temperature protection, and low-noise operation.
  4. Rinse Tank (Optional): After emptying the black tank, close its valve. Open the gray water tank valve to flush the system. For a more thorough rinse, use the freshwater inlet with flow control on the 4-in-1 adapter to introduce clean water into the black tank while the pump is running.
  5. Duty Cycle: Note that the pump has a recommended duty cycle of 5 minutes on, followed by 10 minutes off, to prevent overheating and ensure longevity.
  6. Deactivate Pump: Once all tanks are empty and rinsed, turn off the macerator pump.
  7. Close RV Waste Valves: Close all RV waste tank valves.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your macerator pump system:

  • Rinse After Each Use: Always rinse the pump and hoses thoroughly with clean water after each use to prevent buildup and odors. The freshwater inlet with flow control facilitates this process.
  • Inspect Connections: Regularly check all connections, including the 4-in-1 adapter and hose connections, for wear, damage, or leaks. Replace worn components as necessary.
  • Clean Backflow Preventer: Periodically inspect and clean the backflow preventer to ensure it functions correctly and does not leak.
  • Storage: After cleaning, disconnect all components. Store the pump and accessories in the provided vented carry bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the storage caps to protect openings.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your macerator pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump not turning onNo power, loose connection, faulty switchCheck 12V power source, ensure battery clamps are secure, inspect power cord and switch for damage.
Pump runs but no waste is discharged (aeration)Air leak in suction line, pump running too fast (over-voltage)Ensure all inlet connections are airtight. If using a power supply, verify it provides a stable 12V; higher voltage (e.g., 13.8V) can cause aeration. Consider a PWM 12V motor controller if necessary.
Leaks at connectionsLoose connections, worn gaskets/O-rings, damaged backflow preventerTighten all connections. Inspect and replace any damaged gaskets or O-rings. Check the backflow preventer for cracks or improper seating.
Reduced flow or cloggingObstruction in pump or hose, excessive solidsEnsure black tank is adequately diluted. Disconnect power and inspect the pump inlet and discharge hose for blockages.
Pump overheatsExtended continuous operation, restricted flowAdhere to the 5 minutes on / 10 minutes off duty cycle. Ensure discharge hose is not kinked or obstructed. Allow pump to cool down.
