Creality Space Pi Filament Dryer Plus User Manual

Model: Space-Filament-Dryer-Plus

Introduction

The Creality Space Pi Filament Dryer Plus is an advanced solution designed to optimize your 3D printing experience by effectively drying filament. This device features a dual-spool capacity, double 360° hot-air heating with a built-in fan, and an intuitive touch screen interface. It is engineered to remove moisture from various filament types, including PLA, PETG, ABS, and TPU, thereby preventing common printing issues such as stringing, clogging, and poor adhesion, ultimately leading to improved print quality and reliability.

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Creality Space Pi Filament Dryer Plus:

  1. Unboxing: Carefully remove the filament dryer and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Placement: Place the dryer on a stable, flat surface near your 3D printer or in a suitable drying area. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the power cable to the dryer's power input port located at the rear. Plug the other end into a compatible power outlet (US 110V 50/60Hz or GB/UK/EUR 220V 50/60Hz).
  4. Filament Loading: Open the top cover of the dryer. Place up to two 1kg filament spools onto the internal rollers. Ensure the spools rotate freely.
  5. PTFE Tube Installation: If connecting directly to a 3D printer, insert the provided PTFE tubes into the filament holes on the side of the dryer. Guide the filament through the tubes to your printer's extruder.
  6. Desiccant Placement: The dryer includes dual desiccant storage compartments. Place desiccant packets (not included, but the compartments are for them) into these areas to enhance moisture absorption.

Operating Instructions

The Creality Space Pi Filament Dryer Plus features a user-friendly 4-inch LCD touch screen for easy operation.

  1. Power On: Flip the power switch located at the rear of the unit to the 'ON' position. The LCD touch screen will illuminate.
  2. Material Selection: On the touch screen, navigate to the 'Material' setting. Use the up/down arrows to select your filament type (e.g., PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, PA, PC, etc.). The dryer has fast temperature settings for up to 12 types of filaments, including common and high-performance composites like PLA-CF, PA-CF, and ASA.
  3. Temperature Adjustment: The device will automatically suggest a drying temperature based on the selected material. You can manually adjust the temperature between 45°C and 70°C using the temperature control buttons.
  4. Timer Function: Set the desired drying duration using the 'Time' setting. The heating duration can be freely set from 0 to 48 hours.
  5. Start Drying: Once settings are configured, press the 'Start' button (play icon) to begin the drying process. The screen will display real-time temperature, humidity, and a drying countdown.
  6. Power-off Memory: The unit features a parameter power-off memory function. In case of a power outage, the machine will remember your previous material and temperature settings upon restart, eliminating the need for re-configuration.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your filament dryer:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the exterior and interior of the dryer with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Desiccant Replacement/Reactivation: Periodically check the desiccant packets. Replace them or reactivate them (if reusable) when they become saturated with moisture. The dryer's heating function can be used to dry desiccant.
  • Filament Path: Ensure the filament path and PTFE tubes are clear of debris or kinks to allow smooth feeding.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the dryer in a cool, dry place. While the unit helps dry filament, it is not designed for long-term moisture-proof storage without additional measures.

Troubleshooting

Common issues and their solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Dryer not powering onPower cable loose; power switch off; no power from outlet.Check power cable connection; ensure power switch is ON; test outlet with another device.
Filament not drying effectivelyIncorrect temperature/time settings; high ambient humidity; saturated desiccant.Verify settings for filament type; ensure door is slightly ajar during drying to allow moisture escape; replace/reactivate desiccant.
Display not respondingTemporary software glitch.Power cycle the unit (turn off, wait 10 seconds, turn on).
Filament not feeding smoothlyPTFE tube kinked or blocked; filament tangled on spool.Check and clear PTFE tubes; untangle filament on spool.
