Key Features:

  • Energy Efficient & Bright: 20W LED bulbs provide 2000 lumens of super bright 5000K Daylight, equivalent to 200W traditional bulbs, saving up to 85% energy.
  • PIR Infrared Motion Sensor: Automatically lights up when movement is detected within 8-16 feet in the dark, turning off after 30-40 seconds of no motion.
  • Dusk to Dawn Sensor: Built-in photocell sensor ensures the bulb only activates in the dark (below 15 lux) and remains off during the daytime (above 40 lux), optimizing energy use.
  • Enhanced Security: Provides automatic illumination to deter unwanted visitors and enhance safety around your property.

Setup and Installation

Before installation, ensure the power supply to the fixture is turned off to prevent electrical shock. These bulbs are designed for standard E26 bases.

Installation Guidelines:

  • Power Off: Always cut off power to the light fixture before installing or removing the bulb.
  • Fixture Compatibility: Do not install this bulb in a closed fixture (enclosed lampshade) or recessed fixture. The motion sensor part must be exposed to function correctly.
  • Sensor Placement: Ensure the sensor on top of the bulb is not covered by the fixture or any other obstruction.
  • Switch Position: The light switch connected to the fixture must be kept in the "ON" position for the bulb's sensors to operate automatically.
  • Optimal Angle and Height: For best performance, mount the motion sensor flood light bulb 8-15 feet (approximately 2.4-4.5 meters) above the ground. Adjust the angle and height of the bulb installation to ensure the sensor is directed towards the desired detection area to maximize sensitivity.

Operating Instructions

The Torkase PAR38 Motion Sensor Flood Light Bulb combines a PIR infrared motion sensor with a photocell dusk-to-dawn sensor for intelligent operation.

Automatic Operation:

  1. Daytime Mode: During the day (when ambient light is above 40 lux), the bulb will remain OFF, even if motion is detected. This conserves energy.
  2. Nighttime Activation: In dark conditions (when ambient light is below 15 lux), the bulb will automatically turn ON when movement is detected within its 8-16 feet range.
  3. Motion Sustained: The light will stay on as long as continuous motion is detected within its sensing area.
  4. Auto-Off: After motion ceases or disappears for approximately 30-40 seconds (or up to 45 seconds as shown in some diagrams), the bulb will automatically turn OFF.
Four panel diagram illustrating the operation of the motion sensor light bulb: 1. Off in daytime, 2. Auto ON in dark with motion, 3. Stays on with motion, 4. Auto OFF after 45 seconds of no motion.

Maintenance

Torkase LED bulbs are designed for long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal operation and longevity:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the bulb and sensor with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or debris that might obstruct the sensor or reduce light output. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Inspection: Regularly check the bulb for any visible damage or loose connections.
  • Environmental Conditions: While designed for outdoor use, avoid exposing the bulb to extreme conditions beyond its specified operating range.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Torkase Motion Sensor Flood Light Bulb, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Bulb does not turn on at night.
  • Light switch is OFF.
  • Ambient light is too bright (above 15 lux).
  • Sensor is obstructed or covered.
  • No motion detected within range.
  • Ensure the light switch is in the "ON" position.
  • Verify the installation location is sufficiently dark for nighttime activation.
  • Check that the sensor on top of the bulb is clear of any obstructions (e.g., fixture, debris).
  • Confirm motion is occurring within the 8-16 feet detection range.
Bulb stays on during the day.
  • Ambient light is not bright enough (below 40 lux).
  • Sensor is obstructed or covered, preventing it from detecting daylight.
  • Relocate the bulb to an area with sufficient daylight.
  • Ensure the sensor is clear and exposed to ambient light.
Bulb does not detect motion reliably.
  • Incorrect installation height or angle.
  • Sensor is obstructed.
  • Motion is outside the detection range (8-16 feet) or angle (120 degrees).
  • Adjust the bulb's angle and height (recommended 8-15ft) to point the sensor towards the primary motion path.
  • Ensure the sensor is not covered.
  • Confirm motion occurs within the specified range and angle.
Bulb turns off too quickly or too slowly.
  • Continuous motion in the detection zone.
  • Sensor sensitivity.
  • The bulb is designed to stay on as long as motion is detected. It will turn off 30-40 seconds after the last detected motion.
  • Ensure no constant motion sources are within the detection zone.
