Setup

  1. Attaching the Reel: Securely attach the NautiX spinning reel to your fishing rod's reel seat. Ensure it is tightened firmly to prevent movement during casting and retrieving.
  2. Spooling Fishing Line:
    • Open the bail arm.
    • Tie your chosen fishing line (monofilament, fluorocarbon, or braided) to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
    • Close the bail arm.
    • Maintain light tension on the line as you reel it onto the spool. Ensure the line lays evenly across the spool. Do not overfill the spool; leave about 1/8 inch (3mm) from the spool lip.
  3. Adjusting the Drag: The drag knob is located on the top of the spool. Turn it clockwise to increase drag tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Set the drag to approximately 25-30% of your line's breaking strength. This allows line to be pulled off the spool under pressure, preventing line breakage and protecting your rod.

Operating Instructions

  1. Casting:
    • Hold the rod with the reel beneath your hand.
    • Use your index finger to hold the fishing line against the rod handle.
    • Open the bail arm with your other hand.
    • Swing the rod forward in a smooth motion, releasing the line with your index finger as the rod reaches the desired casting angle.
    • Close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle after the lure hits the water.
  2. Retrieving: Turn the reel handle to retrieve your line. The line roller will guide the line back onto the spool. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure and fishing conditions.

  3. Drag Adjustment During a Fight: During a fish fight, you may need to adjust the drag. If the fish is pulling too hard and line is not coming off, slightly loosen the drag knob. If the fish is not pulling enough line and you need more control, slightly tighten the drag knob. Always make small adjustments.
  4. Anti-Reverse Switch: The NautiX reel features an anti-reverse switch, typically located at the bottom of the reel body. Engaging this switch prevents the handle from turning backward, providing instant hook sets. Disengaging it allows the handle to turn backward, which can be useful for certain techniques or to relieve pressure.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Piscifun NautiX Spinning Reel.

  1. Rinsing After Use: After each use, especially in saltwater, lightly rinse the reel with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel. Gently wipe away any salt residue or dirt with a soft cloth.
  2. Drying: Allow the reel to air dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area before storage. Avoid direct sunlight or excessive heat.
  3. Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of fishing reel grease to the main gear and pinion gear, and a drop of fishing reel oil to the bearings and line roller. Refer to a general fishing reel maintenance guide for specific lubrication points. Do not over-lubricate.
  4. Storage: Store your reel in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Loosen the drag knob slightly before storage to relieve pressure on the drag washers.

Troubleshooting

  • Line Twist: If your line is twisting excessively, it may be due to improper spooling, using lures that spin, or retrieving against a strong current. Try re-spooling the line correctly, using swivels with spinning lures, or letting out a long length of line behind a boat to untwist.
  • Drag Slipping or Sticking: This can be caused by dirty or worn drag washers, or improper lubrication. Clean the drag washers and apply a thin layer of drag grease if necessary. Ensure the drag knob is not overtightened or too loose.
  • Handle Not Turning Smoothly: This could indicate dirt or corrosion in the gears or bearings. Perform thorough cleaning and lubrication. If the issue persists, professional servicing may be required.
