3. Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the hob's controls and features before first use.

3.1 Automatic Ignition

  1. Ensure the gas supply is open.
  2. Press down the corresponding control knob for the desired burner.
  3. While pressing, turn the knob counter-clockwise to the 'ON' position. The in-built battery-operated ignition system will automatically spark.
  4. Hold the knob down for a few seconds (approximately 3-5 seconds) after the flame ignites to allow the Flame Failure Device (FFD) to activate and stabilize the flame.
  5. Release the knob. If the flame extinguishes, repeat the process.

3.2 Flame Control

Adjust the flame intensity by rotating the knob between the 'High' and 'Low' settings. The dual functionality brass burners allow for flexible cooking:

  • Lower Single Flame (2.5 kW): Ideal for simmering or low-heat cooking.
  • Full Burner (3.0 kW): Provides maximum heat for rapid boiling or high-heat cooking.

3.3 Flame Failure Device (FFD)

This hob is equipped with an FFD for enhanced safety. If the flame accidentally extinguishes due to spillage or draught, the FFD will automatically cut off the gas supply to that burner, preventing gas leakage. This feature requires holding the knob down for a few seconds during ignition to allow the sensor to heat up.

4. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your hob.

4.1 Cleaning the Hob Surface

  • Always allow the hob to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Use a soft cloth or sponge with a mild detergent and warm water for the toughened black glass surface.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can scratch or damage the glass.
  • Wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth to prevent water spots.

4.2 Cleaning Burners and Pan Supports

The liftable brass burners and cast iron pan supports are designed for easy removal and cleaning.

  1. Ensure the hob is cool and the gas supply is turned off.
  2. Lift and remove the pan supports and burner components (burner caps, crowns).
  3. Wash these components with warm soapy water. For stubborn stains, a non-abrasive brush can be used.
  4. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts completely before reassembling. Moisture can affect ignition.
  5. Ensure all parts are correctly placed back to maintain optimal performance and safety.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your hob, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Burner Not Igniting:
    • Check if the main gas supply valve is open.
    • Ensure the battery for the auto-ignition is not depleted and is correctly installed. Replace if necessary.
    • Clean the burner caps and ignition pins. Food debris or moisture can block the spark.
  • Flame Extinguishes After Releasing Knob:
    • This indicates the Flame Failure Device (FFD) is activating. Ensure you hold the knob down for the recommended 3-5 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat up and register the flame.
  • Irregular or Yellow Flame:
    • Clean the burner ports to remove any food debris or blockages.
    • Ensure burner caps and crowns are correctly seated and aligned.
  • Gas Odor:
    • Immediately turn off the gas supply. Open windows and doors for ventilation.
    • Do not operate any electrical switches or appliances.
    • Contact your gas provider and Faber customer support immediately.
