1. Product Overview

The Keychron Q6 Max is a full-size wireless custom mechanical keyboard designed for versatility and performance. It features a robust full-metal body, multiple connectivity options, and extensive customization capabilities through QMK/VIA firmware.

2.1 Package Contents

2.2 Connectivity

The Q6 Max supports three connection modes: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and Type-C wired.

• 2.4 GHz Wireless: For a fast and responsive connection with a 1000 Hz polling rate. Use the included Type-A 2.4 GHz receiver.
• Bluetooth 5.1: Connects to up to 3 devices for seamless multitasking. Offers a 90 Hz polling rate.
• Type-C Wired: Provides a stable connection with a 1000 Hz polling rate and allows for QMK/VIA customization.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Key Remapping with QMK & VIA

The Q6 Max supports QMK/VIA firmware, allowing for extensive customization of key functions, macros, and lighting effects. The VIA software is web-based, eliminating the need for local installation.

• Accessing VIA: Connect your keyboard via USB-C and visit the official Keychron VIA configurator website.
• Remapping Keys: Drag and drop desired key functions to any key on the keyboard.
• Creating Macros: Record sequences of keystrokes and assign them to a single key for complex commands.

3.2 RGB Backlight Customization

The keyboard features RGB backlighting with various effects. These can be customized through the QMK/VIA software, allowing you to adjust brightness, effect type, speed, and color to match your preferences.

3.3 Knob Functionality

The rotary knob on the keyboard is programmable via QMK/VIA. By default, it controls volume (rotate) and mute/unmute (press). You can reassign these functions to other tasks such as scrolling, zooming, or switching applications.

3.4 Hot-Swappable Switches

The Q6 Max is equipped with hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to change switches without soldering. It supports most 3-pin and 5-pin MX-style mechanical switches (e.g., Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Panda).

• Removing Switches: Use the included switch puller tool to carefully grip and pull out the existing switch.
• Installing Switches: Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB and press firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure pins are straight to avoid bending.

3.5 Polling Rate

The keyboard offers a 1000 Hz polling rate in 2.4 GHz wireless and wired modes, ensuring minimal latency for competitive gaming and fast-paced tasks. In Bluetooth mode, the polling rate is 90 Hz.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance and appearance, regularly clean your keyboard. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps. For deeper cleaning, remove the keycaps using the provided keycap puller and wipe them with a damp cloth. Ensure all components are dry before reassembling.

4.2 Switch and Keycap Replacement

Leverage the hot-swappable feature to replace switches or keycaps as needed. Refer to section 3.4 for detailed instructions on replacing switches. Keycaps can be removed using the keycap puller by gently prying them off the switch stem.

• Keyboard not connecting: Ensure the correct mode (2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, or Wired) is selected using the switch on the back. For Bluetooth, ensure the keyboard is in pairing mode and visible to your device. For wired, check the USB-C cable connection.
• Keys not registering: If individual keys are not working, ensure the switches are properly seated in their sockets. Use the switch puller to re-seat or replace faulty switches.
• RGB lighting issues: Check the QMK/VIA software for lighting settings. Ensure brightness is not set to zero and the desired effect is active.
• Inconsistent legends on keycaps: Some legends may appear bolder than others due to manufacturing variations. This is generally cosmetic and does not affect functionality.
