Setup

Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack your Quansheng UV-K5 radio and inspect all components for any signs of damage. If any items are missing or damaged, please contact your retailer.

Battery Installation

1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
2. Align the 1600mAh Li-ion battery with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
3. Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.
4. To remove, press the release latch (if present) and slide the battery out.

Antenna Attachment

1. Screw the antenna clockwise onto the antenna connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the radio's battery.

1. Connect the charging dock to a power source using the provided charger.
2. Place the radio (with battery installed) into the charging dock. The charging indicator light will typically show red while charging and turn green when fully charged.
3. Alternatively, use the USB-C cable to charge the radio directly. Connect the USB-C cable to the radio's USB-C port and a compatible USB power adapter or power bank.

Operating Instructions

Power On/Off

To power on the radio, rotate the volume knob clockwise until you hear a click. To power off, rotate the volume knob counter-clockwise until it clicks.

Volume Adjustment

Rotate the volume knob to adjust the audio output level.

Channel Selection and Scanning

The UV-K5 features Multi-Scan Technology, allowing you to efficiently find active frequencies.

• Manual Channel Selection: Use the up/down arrow buttons or the keypad to enter a desired channel number or frequency.
• Scanning: Press the 'Scan' button (often labeled with an asterisk or 'Scan' text) to initiate channel scanning. The radio will stop on an active channel. Press 'Scan' again to resume scanning.

NOAA Weather Alert

The radio includes a built-in 10-channel NOAA weather receiver to provide real-time weather updates and alerts.

1. Access the NOAA weather function through the menu or a dedicated button (refer to the radio's display for specific navigation).
2. Select a NOAA weather channel to monitor local weather conditions.

DTMF and Scrambler Functions

• DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency): Use the keypad to send DTMF tones for precise dialing or control functions on compatible systems.
• 10-Group Scrambler: Activate the scrambler feature through the radio's menu to encrypt your voice transmissions, ensuring secure communication within your group.

Wireless Radio Replication (Frequency Copy)

The UV-K5 supports wireless frequency copying, allowing you to quickly replicate channel settings from another compatible radio.

1. Ensure both radios are in close proximity and in the appropriate copy mode (refer to the radio's on-screen instructions).
2. Initiate the copy process on the master radio.
3. Confirm the reception on the UV-K5.

Frequency Range and Talking Range

• Frequency Range: 144-148MHz (VHF), 420-450MHz (UHF).
• Talking Range Maximum: Up to 3.1 miles under optimal conditions. Actual range may vary significantly based on terrain, obstructions, and atmospheric conditions.

Maintenance

Battery Care

• To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
• Store the radio and battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.

Cleaning
