4. Setup
4.1 Connecting the Base Unit
- Connect the AC adaptor to the base unit and plug it into a standard electrical outlet.
- Connect the telephone line cord to the base unit and plug it into your telephone wall jack.
- Place the base unit on a flat, stable surface or mount it on a wall using the provided adaptor.
4.2 Installing Handset Batteries
- Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the cordless handset.
- Insert the two supplied AAA rechargeable batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
- Replace the battery compartment cover.

5.1 Making and Receiving Calls
- To Make a Call: Pick up the corded handset or press the TALK button on the cordless handset, then dial the number.
- To Receive a Call: Pick up the corded handset or press the TALK button on the cordless handset when the phone rings.
- Speakerphone: Press the SP-PHONE button on either the base unit or cordless handset to use the speakerphone function.
5.2 Advanced Call Blocking
The system offers robust call blocking features to reduce unwanted calls.
- Automated Call Block: Pre-blocks known robocalls.
- Telemarketing Call Block: Allows you to block announced callers.
- 1-Touch Call Block Button: Press the large red CALL BLOCK button on the base unit or cordless handset during a call or when the phone is ringing to block the current caller. This adds the number to your block list, which can store up to 1000 numbers.

5.3 2-Way Recording
This feature allows you to record conversations for reference or to deter nuisance calls.
- During a call, press the RECORD button (or equivalent function on the handset/base) to start recording.
- Both sides of the conversation will be recorded.
- Recordings are stored on the digital answering machine.

5.4 Digital Answering Machine
The integrated digital answering machine can record up to 17 minutes of messages.
- Playing Messages: Press the PLAY/STOP button on the base unit to listen to new messages.
- Recording Outgoing Message: Follow the menu prompts on the base unit or handset to record your personalized outgoing message.
5.5 Talking Caller ID
When a call comes in, the base unit and cordless handset will announce the caller's name or number (if available) in English or Spanish, allowing you to screen calls from across the room.

Store up to 3,000 contacts in the phonebook for quick and easy dialing. Access the phonebook via the menu on the base unit or cordless handset.

The KX-TGF850B system is expandable. You can register up to 6 cordless handsets (model KX-TGFA85B, sold separately) to the base unit to extend your phone system throughout your home or office.
