1. Introduction

The Radiomaster MT12 is an advanced open-source surface radio controller designed for RC cars, boats, crawlers, and other surface models. It is the first surface radio officially supported by EdgeTX, ExpressLRS, and the Multi-module project, offering extensive customizability and a versatile operating system. With 10 physical inputs and support for 16 or 32 channels, the MT12 provides precise control and adaptability for various RC applications.

Upon opening the package, verify that all components are present:

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The MT12 controller requires two 18650 Li-ion batteries (not included). Insert the batteries into the provided battery holder, ensuring correct polarity. Then, insert the battery holder into the battery compartment located at the base of the controller. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The controller supports QC3.0 fast charging via the USB-C port. Connect the USB-C cable to the port on the controller and to a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).

4.2 Initial Power On and Binding

Press and hold the power button (located below the screen) to turn on the MT12. The screen will illuminate, displaying the EdgeTX operating system interface. For initial use, you will need to bind the controller to your receiver. Refer to the EdgeTX documentation or specific receiver manual for detailed binding procedures, as these can vary based on the receiver type (e.g., ExpressLRS).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Controls

  • Steering Wheel: Controls the steering of your RC model. Features non-contact Hall sensors for precise input.
  • Throttle Trigger: Controls the speed and direction (forward/reverse) of your RC model. The trigger is adjustable for position and spring tension.
  • Navigation Buttons: Use SYS, MDL, PAGE, RTN, and TELE buttons to navigate through the EdgeTX menu system and access various settings.
  • CNC Menu Wheel: Provides intuitive navigation and selection within the menu system.

5.2 Advanced Functions

  • Trim Buttons: The MT12 features 5 programmable trim buttons. These can be assigned to fine-tune various aspects of your model's control, such as steering trim, throttle trim, or other auxiliary functions.
  • Proportion Input Channels: Utilize the 4 proportion input channels for advanced control over specific model features, offering greater functionality and customization.
  • Custom RGB Lighting: Personalize the controller's appearance with custom RGB lighting, configurable through LUA scripts within the EdgeTX system.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the controller. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Battery Care: Store the controller in a cool, dry place. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries or ensure they are charged to a storage voltage (typically 3.8V per cell for Li-ion).
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the official EdgeTX and Radiomaster websites for firmware updates. Keeping your controller's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance, new features, and bug fixes.
  • Grip Replacement: The MT12 features a replaceable grip. If the grip becomes worn or damaged, it can be replaced.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Controller Not Powering On:
    • Ensure batteries are correctly installed and fully charged.
    • Check battery polarity.
    • Verify the power button is pressed and held sufficiently.
  • No Control Response from Model:
    • Confirm the controller is successfully bound to the receiver.
    • Check that the receiver is powered on and correctly connected to the model's ESC/servos.
    • Verify model settings in EdgeTX match the receiver and model configuration.
    • Ensure the receiver's antenna is properly positioned and not obstructed.
  • Limited Range or Intermittent Signal:
    • Check for environmental interference (e.g., Wi-Fi, other 2.4GHz devices).
    • Ensure the controller's internal antenna is not obstructed.
    • Verify the receiver's antenna placement on the model.
    • Consider updating firmware on both controller and receiver.
  • Display Issues or Software Glitches:
    • Restart the controller.
    • Perform a factory reset (refer to EdgeTX documentation for procedure).
    • Update to the latest EdgeTX firmware.
