Installation Steps:

  1. Remove Old Tuning Pegs (if applicable): Carefully unscrew and remove any existing tuning pegs from your guitar's headstock. Keep track of any small parts.
  2. Check Headstock Hole Size: Compare the diameter of the tuning peg shaft with the holes in your guitar's headstock. Refer to Image 2.1 for dimensions. If the holes are too small, they may need to be carefully widened by a qualified technician or with appropriate tools.
  3. Insert Threaded Bushings: From the front of the headstock, insert the threaded bushings into the holes. Ensure they sit flush.
  4. Position Tuning Pegs: Place the tuning pegs into the corresponding holes from the back of the headstock. Ensure the screw hole on each peg aligns with the headstock surface. The set includes 3 left-sided and 3 right-sided pegs.
  5. Secure with Screws: Use the provided screws to firmly attach each tuning peg to the headstock. Do not overtighten.
  6. Install Ferrules: Place the ferrules over the threaded bushings on the front of the headstock. These help secure the string post and provide a finished look.

3. Operating Instructions

Once the tuning pegs are installed, you can proceed with stringing and tuning your guitar.

Tuning Your Guitar:

  1. String Installation: Thread your guitar strings through the bridge and then through the hole in the string post of the corresponding tuning peg.
  2. Initial Tension: Wind the string around the post, ensuring a few wraps for stability. Turn the tuning peg knob to bring the string to an approximate tension.
  3. Fine-Tuning: Use a digital tuner or reference pitch to adjust each string to its correct note. Turn the tuning peg knobs slowly and precisely until the desired pitch is achieved. The internal gears are designed for smooth and accurate adjustments.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your QWORK tuning pegs.

Cleaning:

  • Wipe the tuning pegs regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, sweat, and grime.
  • For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed immediately by a dry cloth to prevent moisture buildup.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the chrome finish.

Inspecting for Wear:

  • Periodically check the screws for tightness. Loose screws can affect tuning stability.
  • Inspect the gears for any signs of wear or damage. While designed for durability, extreme force or impact can cause issues.
  • Ensure the tuning peg knobs turn smoothly without excessive resistance or looseness.

5. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

Common Issues:

  • Tuning Instability:
    • Cause: Loose screws, improperly wound strings, or new strings stretching.
    • Solution: Check and tighten all mounting screws. Ensure strings are properly wound with sufficient wraps around the post. Allow new strings to stretch by playing and re-tuning frequently.
  • Stiff Turning Knobs:
    • Cause: Dirt buildup in gears or overtightened components.
    • Solution: Clean the tuning pegs thoroughly. If still stiff, ensure no components are overtightened during installation. A small amount of graphite lubricant can be applied to the gears if accessible, but typically not required for new pegs.
  • Loose Tuning Pegs:
    • Cause: Loose mounting screws or worn internal gears.
    • Solution: Tighten all mounting screws. If the issue persists and the pegs are old, the internal gears might be worn, requiring replacement.
