  • Digital Display: Innovative front screen with simple rotary knob control and digital display for precise parameter adjustment.
  • Overload Protection: Equipped with thermal control to prevent damage from overheating.

2. Safety Instructions

Always prioritize safety when operating welding equipment. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or death.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear a welding helmet with appropriate shade, flame-resistant clothing, welding gloves, and safety shoes.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation to remove welding fumes, which can be hazardous to health.
  • Fire Hazards: Keep flammable materials away from the welding area. Have a fire extinguisher readily available.
  • Electrical Safety: Do not operate the machine in wet conditions. Ensure all cables are in good condition and properly connected. Never touch live electrical parts.
  • Arc Rays: Protect eyes and skin from arc rays, which can cause burns and eye damage.
  • Work Area: Keep the work area clean and free of clutter. Ensure stable footing.
  • Children and Bystanders: Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the welding area.

3. Package Contents

Please check the package contents upon unpacking to ensure all components are present and undamaged:

  • 1 x Parkside Performance® PTMI 180 A1 Inverter Welding Machine
  • 1 x TIG Torch
  • 2 x MMA Stick Electrodes (2 x 2.5 mm)
  • 1 x Tungsten Electrode (1.6 mm)
  • 1 x 2m Welding Cable with Electrode Holder
  • 1 x 2m Earth Cable with Galvanized Clamp
  • 1 x Carrying Strap

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your welding machine:

  1. Placement: Place the welding machine on a stable, level, and non-flammable surface. Ensure adequate air circulation around the machine for cooling.
  2. Connect Earth Cable: Connect the earth cable's clamp to a clean, bare metal section of your workpiece or welding table. Ensure a good electrical connection.
  3. Connect Electrode Holder (MMA): For MMA welding, connect the welding cable with the electrode holder to the appropriate terminal on the machine (usually positive for most electrodes). Insert the desired MMA electrode into the holder.
  4. Connect TIG Torch (TIG): For TIG welding, connect the TIG torch to the designated TIG terminal. Connect the gas hose from the TIG torch to your protective gas cylinder (e.g., Argon) via a pressure regulator. Ensure the gas connection (¼" internal thread) is secure.
  5. Power Connection: Connect the machine's power cable to a suitable 230V AC power outlet.
  6. Power On: Turn on the machine using the On/Off switch. The power indicator light will illuminate.

5. Operating Instructions

This section details the operation of your PTMI 180 A1 welding machine for both MMA and TIG processes.

5.1. Selecting Welding Process

Use the controls on the innovative front screen to select between MMA and TIG welding modes. The digital display will show the selected mode.

5.2. Adjusting Welding Current

Use the rotary knob control on the front panel to adjust the welding current. The digital display will show the precise current setting (10-180 A). Adjust the current according to the material thickness and electrode/tungsten size.

5.3. MMA Welding (Stick Electrode)

  • Ensure the correct electrode is inserted into the holder and the earth clamp is securely attached.
  • Select MMA mode.
  • Adjust the welding current.
  • Utilize the Hot Start function for easy arc ignition.
  • If the electrode sticks, the Anti-Stick function will automatically reduce the current, allowing for easy release.
  • Maintain a consistent arc length and travel speed for optimal results.

5.4. TIG Welding (Tungsten Inert Gas)

  • Ensure the tungsten electrode is properly installed in the TIG torch and the protective gas is connected and flowing.
  • Select TIG mode.
  • Adjust the welding current.
  • Use the Lift Arc function for comfortable arc ignition by gently touching the tungsten to the workpiece and then lifting it slightly to initiate the arc.
  • Maintain a consistent torch angle and distance from the workpiece.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your welding machine.

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the machine with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation Openings: Keep the ventilation openings clear of dust and debris to ensure proper cooling. Use compressed air to gently blow out dust if necessary.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect all cables (welding, earth, power) for signs of damage, cuts, or fraying. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Connections: Ensure all electrical connections are tight and secure.
  • Electrode Holder/TIG Torch: Clean the electrode holder and TIG torch regularly to remove spatter and ensure good electrical contact.
  • Storage: Store the machine in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use.

7. Troubleshooting

This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Machine does not power on.No power supply; Faulty power cable; Machine switch off.Check power outlet and circuit breaker; Inspect power cable for damage; Ensure On/Off switch is in 'On' position.
No welding arc.Poor earth connection; Incorrect current setting; Electrode/tungsten issue; Overload protection activated.Ensure earth clamp has good contact; Adjust current; Check electrode/tungsten for damage or proper insertion; Allow machine to cool down if overload indicator is on.
Arc is unstable or difficult to maintain.Incorrect current; Improper arc length; Contaminated workpiece; Incorrect gas flow (TIG).Adjust current; Maintain proper arc length; Clean workpiece surface; Check gas cylinder and flow rate (TIG).
Machine overheats and shuts down.Exceeded duty cycle; Blocked ventilation; High ambient temperature.Allow machine to cool down; Clear ventilation openings; Operate in a cooler environment.
