What's Included
Your Lionel North Pole Central Freight Toy Train Set includes the following components:
- 1 Battery-powered General-style Locomotive
- 1 Tender
- 1 Gondola with 3 Crate Loads (removable)
- 1 Center Cupola Caboose
- 24 Curved Plastic Track Pieces
- 8 Straight Plastic Track Pieces
- 1 Empty Water Bottle Dropper

Setup
1. Track Assembly
The exclusive track system allows for three different layouts: a 73.2 x 50-inch oval, a 47.75-inch circle, or a 53 x 53-inch rounded square. Connect the track pieces by aligning the connectors and pressing them firmly together until they click into place. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent derailment.

2. Battery Installation
The locomotive requires (6) C Cell Batteries for operation (not included). Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the locomotive. Insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-). Securely close the battery compartment cover.
3. Connecting Train Cars
Connect the tender, gondola, and caboose to the locomotive using the fixed knuckle couplers. Ensure each car is securely attached to the next.

Operating Instructions
1. Powering On
Locate the 3-Position switch on the top of the engine. Slide the switch to the 'ON' position to activate the train. The locomotive's working headlight and engine cab light will illuminate.
2. Control Options
- Conventional Mode: Use the 3-Position switch on the engine to control basic forward/reverse movement.
- Lionel Bluetooth Control: Download the Lionel Bluetooth Control app (Cab3) from your smartphone's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to connect to your train set. This allows for advanced control including speed, direction, authentic train sounds (announcements, bell, whistle), and water-vapor smoke effects.

3. Water-Vapor Smoke Effects
To activate the water-vapor smoke effect with flickering LED in the smokestack, use the included empty water bottle dropper to add a small amount of water into the designated opening on the locomotive. The effect will begin once the train is in motion.

Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Wipe the train set components with a soft, dry cloth to clean. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
2. Battery Care
Remove all batteries from the locomotive when not in use for an extended period of time to prevent leakage and damage.
Troubleshooting
- Train not moving: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and fully charged. Check that the power switch on the locomotive is in the 'ON' position. Verify all track connections are secure.
- Smoke effect not working: Confirm water has been added to the locomotive's smoke stack. The train must be in motion for the smoke effect to activate.
- Bluetooth connectivity issues: Ensure your smart device's Bluetooth is enabled and the Lionel Cab3 app is open. Try restarting both the train and your device.
- Train derails: Check that all track pieces are firmly connected and laid on a flat, stable surface. Ensure train cars are properly coupled.
