Liiiyuan M13PLUS Heads Up Display User Manual

Model: M13PLUS

1. Introduction

The Liiiyuan M13PLUS is a dual-system Heads Up Display (HUD) for vehicles, offering both OBD2 and GPS modes. This device projects essential driving data onto your car's front windshield, such as speed, RPM, water temperature, voltage, and mileage. Its purpose is to enhance driving safety by allowing drivers to view critical information without diverting their gaze from the road. The M13PLUS supports various display interfaces and color options for user customization.

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your M13PLUS HUD, along with troubleshooting tips and product specifications.

2.2 Connection Methods

The M13PLUS offers two modes of operation, each with a specific connection:

  • OBD2 Mode: Connect the HUD to your vehicle's OBD2 port using the provided OBD cable. This mode is suitable for vehicles manufactured after 2008. The OBD cable provides a 12V power supply.
  • GPS Mode: Connect the HUD to a USB power source (e.g., car charger, USB port) using the provided USB cable. This mode is suitable for all vehicles, especially those incompatible with OBD2 (e.g., hybrid electric cars, diesel cars, pickup trucks, saloon cars, computer modified cars). The USB cable provides a 5V power supply.

2.3 Reflective Film Application

For optimal display clarity, especially in bright conditions, apply the reflective film to your windshield:

  1. Clean the glass thoroughly in the desired projection area on your windshield.
  2. Peel off the protective layer labeled "①" from the reflective film.
  3. Carefully paste the film onto the clean glass, ensuring it is vertical and aligned.
  4. Use a soft cloth or squeegee to remove any air bubbles.
  5. Once the film is smooth, remove the outer protective layer labeled "②".

2.4 Initial Power On

After connecting the HUD to your car's power source (OBD2 or USB), start the engine. The device will power on automatically. If using GPS mode, a small icon on the product will flash constantly, indicating that the device is acquiring satellite signals. Speed and other GPS-dependent data will be displayed once sufficient satellite signals are acquired.

3. Operation

The M13PLUS HUD provides various driving data and customizable display options.

3.1 Displayed Information

Depending on the operating mode (OBD2 or GPS), the HUD can display the following information:

  • Speed: Current vehicle speed.
  • RPM: Engine revolutions per minute (OBD2 mode only).
  • Water Temperature: Engine coolant temperature (OBD2 mode only).
  • Voltage: Vehicle battery voltage.
  • Fuel Consumption: Real-time fuel usage (OBD2 mode only).
  • Single Trip Mileage: Distance traveled during the current trip.
  • Single Trip Time: Duration of the current trip.
  • 100km Acceleration Time: Time taken to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (OBD2 mode only).
  • Altitude: Current altitude (GPS mode only).
  • Direction of Travel: Compass display (GPS mode only).
  • Clear Fault Codes: Ability to clear engine fault codes (OBD2 mode only).

3.3 Alarm Functions

The HUD includes multiple alarm functions to alert the driver to potential issues:

  • Over Speed Alarm: Alerts when the vehicle exceeds a preset speed limit.
  • RPM Alarm: Alerts when engine RPM exceeds a preset limit (OBD2 mode only).
  • Voltage Alarm: Alerts if the vehicle's battery voltage is too low or too high.
  • Water Temperature Alarm: Alerts if the engine coolant temperature is too high (OBD2 mode only).
  • Fatigue Driving Alarm: Reminds the driver to take a break after a set period of continuous driving (GPS mode only).

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your M13PLUS HUD, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the HUD unit and the reflective film. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the surfaces.
  • Connection Check: Periodically check that the OBD or USB cable connections are secure and free from damage.
  • Storage: If storing the vehicle for an extended period, it is advisable to unplug the HUD unit.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods when not in use, as this may affect its lifespan.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your M13PLUS HUD, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

5.1 Display Not Turning On

  • Check Power Connection: Ensure the OBD or USB cable is securely connected to both the HUD and the vehicle's power source.
  • Vehicle Compatibility (OBD2): If using OBD2 mode, confirm your vehicle was manufactured after 2008. Some vehicle types (hybrid electric, diesel, pickup trucks, saloon cars, computer modified cars) may not be compatible with OBD2 mode. In such cases, switch to GPS mode using the USB cable.
  • Vehicle Engine: Ensure the vehicle engine is running, as the HUD typically powers on with the engine.

5.2 No Speed Display / Inaccurate Speed

  • GPS Signal Acquisition: If in GPS mode, ensure the small satellite icon on the HUD is not flashing. A flashing icon indicates the device is still searching for satellites. Speed will only display once a stable GPS signal is acquired. Ensure the HUD has a clear view of the sky.
  • OBD2 Data: If in OBD2 mode and speed is not displaying, check the vehicle's OBD2 port for proper function.
  • Speed Calibration: If the displayed speed is inaccurate, the unit may require calibration. Refer to the full instruction manual (if provided separately) for detailed calibration steps. Some user reviews indicate that speed calibration might be necessary, especially at higher speeds.

5.3 Display Not Visible / Double Image

  • Reflective Film: Ensure the reflective film is correctly applied to the windshield. Without the film, the projection may be difficult to see or appear as a double image.
  • Brightness Adjustment: Adjust the display brightness settings on the HUD unit to suit ambient light conditions.
  • Placement: Ensure the HUD is positioned correctly on the dashboard, facing the reflective film.

5.4 Vehicle Malfunctions When Using OBD2 Mode

In rare cases, connecting an OBD2 device may interfere with certain vehicle systems, as reported by some users. If you experience unexpected vehicle behavior (e.g., warning lights, loss of power) after connecting the M13PLUS via OBD2, immediately unplug the HUD. It is recommended to use the GPS mode (USB connection) if OBD2 mode causes any vehicle instability.
