2. Safety Information

WARNING: Always read and understand the safety precautions in your welding machine's instruction manual before using this foot pedal.

  • Ensure the foot pedal is connected only to compatible welding machines with the correct 5-pin interface.
  • Do not operate the foot pedal in wet conditions or expose it to liquids.
  • Place the foot pedal on a stable, level, and non-slip surface to prevent accidental movement during operation.
  • Keep the cable away from hot surfaces, sharp edges, and moving parts.
  • Regularly inspect the cable and connector for any signs of damage. Do not use if damaged.
  • Always disconnect the foot pedal from the welding machine before performing any maintenance or if the machine is not in use.

3. Components

The TOOLIOM TIG Welding Foot Pedal package includes the following:

  • TIG Welding Foot Pedal: The main control unit with a non-slip pad and support board.
  • 16-ft (4.88m) Cable with 5-Pin Connector: Connects the foot pedal to the welding machine.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your TIG Welding Foot Pedal:

  1. Ensure your TIG welding machine is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
  2. Locate the 5-pin control port on your welding machine. Refer to your welding machine's manual for the exact location.
  3. Align the 5-pin connector of the foot pedal cable with the corresponding port on the welding machine. Gently push the connector in until it is fully seated.
  4. Secure the connector by tightening any locking rings or mechanisms present on the connector or port.
  5. Place the foot pedal on a flat, stable surface where you intend to operate it, ensuring the cable is not a tripping hazard and is clear of any hot or sharp objects.
  6. Once connected, you can plug in and power on your welding machine.

5. Operating Instructions

The foot pedal provides intuitive control over your welding amperage:

  • To Activate and Increase Amperage: Gradually depress the foot pedal. The more you depress the pedal, the higher the amperage will be, up to the maximum setting on your welding machine.
  • To Decrease Amperage and Turn Off: Gradually release the foot pedal. As you release, the amperage will decrease. Fully releasing the pedal will turn off the welding arc.

This allows for fine control of the welding process, from starting the arc at a low amperage to increasing it for penetration, and then tapering off to finish the weld.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your foot pedal:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the foot pedal with a dry, clean cloth to remove dust, debris, and welding spatter. For stubborn grime, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure the pedal is completely dry before next use. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the entire length of the 16-ft cable for cuts, abrasions, or kinks. Check the 5-pin connector for bent pins or corrosion. Replace the cable if any damage is found.
  • Storage: Store the foot pedal in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and corrosive materials. Coil the cable loosely to prevent kinks.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your foot pedal, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Foot pedal not responding.Loose or incorrect connection.Ensure the 5-pin connector is fully inserted and secured into the welding machine's port. Verify compatibility with your welding machine model.
Amperage control is erratic or non-existent.Damaged cable or internal potentiometer issue.Inspect the cable for visible damage. If the cable is intact, the internal potentiometer may be faulty. Contact customer support.
Pedal feels stiff or sticky.Accumulation of dirt or debris.Clean the pedal thoroughly, especially around the pivot points.
Welding machine does not power on with pedal connected.Welding machine issue or incompatible pedal.Ensure the welding machine works without the pedal. Confirm the pedal's compatibility with your specific welding machine model.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please refer to your welding machine's manual or contact TOOLIOM customer support.
