This image displays two green Dr.meter soil humidity sensor probes, which are accessories designed to be used with a separate main monitoring unit. They feature a white cap and a long, metallic probe for insertion into soil.
2. Product Features
- Accessory Only: These probes are designed to extend the functionality of a Dr.meter soil monitor and cannot be used as standalone devices.
- Ultimate Accuracy: Provides precise soil moisture and light intensity data, transmitting information to the main soil monitor every 30 minutes.
- IPX5 Waterproofing: Suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments, designed to withstand various weather conditions.
- Leave-in Soil Design: Crafted with a stainless steel probe for long-term soil insertion without the risk of rusting, enabling continuous monitoring.
- Deep Soil Readings: Features a 6.3-inch probe to reach deeper soil layers, ensuring accurate moisture readings and helping prevent overwatering.
- Wide Application: Ideal for houseplants, greenhouse cultivation, gardens, and farms.
3. Package Contents
- 2 x Dr.meter Soil Humidity Sensor Probes (Model GT01)
- User Manual (this document)
- Numbered Stickers (for identifying multiple probes)
Note: The main LCD display soil monitor is NOT included and must be purchased separately for the probes to function.
4. Setup Instructions
4.1. Battery Installation
Each Dr.meter Soil Humidity Sensor Probe requires one AA battery (not included) for operation. Follow these steps to install the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment at the top of the probe.
- Turn the top cap of the probe right along the "OPEN" direction to unlock it.
- Align the "open" symbol on the cap with the "lock" symbol on the probe body.
- Gently pull up the top cover of the probe to reveal the battery slot.
- Insert one AA battery into the compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the top cover and turn it left to the "LOCK" position to secure it.

Figure 2: Battery Installation Steps
This image illustrates the four steps for installing or replacing the AA battery in the Dr.meter soil probe: twisting to open, aligning the symbols, pulling up the cap, and inserting the battery.
4.2. Connecting to Main Soil Monitor
The GT01 probes wirelessly transmit data to a compatible Dr.meter soil monitor. Refer to your main soil monitor's instruction manual for specific pairing and setup procedures. The monitor can typically connect to up to 6 probes, allowing for comprehensive monitoring of multiple plants.

Figure 3: Multiple Plant Monitoring Setup
This image shows a central Dr.meter soil monitor displaying data from six different soil probes placed in various potted plants, illustrating its multi-probe monitoring capability.

Figure 4: Wireless Transmission Range
This image highlights the wireless transmission range of up to 300 feet between the Dr.meter soil monitor and its probes, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Probe Placement and Insertion
For accurate readings, proper insertion of the probe into the soil is crucial:
- Insert the probe into the soil at least halfway down its length to ensure it reaches the root zone.
- Avoid inserting only a small part of the probe, as this will not provide accurate deep soil moisture readings.
- Do not insert the entire probe into the soil, as this may submerge the electronic components.
- Ensure the probe is placed firmly but gently to avoid damaging plant roots.

Figure 5: Correct Probe Insertion
This diagram illustrates the correct depth for inserting the soil probe (at least halfway) and shows examples of incorrect insertion (too shallow or too deep).

Figure 6: Preventing Overwatering
This image shows a Dr.meter soil probe inserted into soil next to a young plant, with a visual representation of different soil moisture levels (5% to 40%), emphasizing its role in preventing overwatering.
5.2. Understanding Readings
The probes transmit data on soil moisture, light, and temperature to your main Dr.meter soil monitor. Consult your monitor's display for these readings. The moisture percentage indicates the water content in the soil, helping you determine when to water your plants. High light (HGH+), normal light (NOR), and low light (LOW) indicators help assess light exposure.
Important: The probes are designed for soil only. Do not use them to test liquids directly, as this may damage the device or provide inaccurate readings.

Figure 7: Soil Use Only
This image clearly states "USE FOR SOIL ONLY! No Liquid Testing" with a warning symbol, showing a probe incorrectly placed in a vase of water.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
To ensure continued accuracy and longevity, regularly clean the probe after use, especially if moving it between different plants or soil types. Wipe the metallic probes with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soil residue. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the entire probe in water.
6.2. Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator on your main soil monitor shows low power for a specific probe, replace the AA battery by following the steps outlined in Section 4.1. "Battery Installation".
7. Troubleshooting
- No Reading on Monitor:
- Ensure the probe's battery is correctly installed and charged.
- Verify the probe is within the transmission range of the main monitor (up to 300ft).
- Check if the probe is properly inserted into the soil (at least halfway).
- Confirm the main monitor is powered on and correctly paired with the probe.
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Clean the probe's metallic sensors thoroughly.
- Ensure the probe is inserted to the correct depth in the soil.
- Avoid placing the probe in overly compacted or extremely loose soil.
- If testing different soil types, allow a few minutes for the reading to stabilize.
- Probe Not Responding:
- Replace the battery with a fresh one.
- Try re-pairing the probe with the main monitor according to the monitor's manual.
