2. Setup

Unpacking and Initial Cleaning:

  1. Place the grill in a well-ventilated area.
  2. Remove and discard any protective film or packaging materials from the grill surfaces.
  3. Clean the grill surfaces with a solution of mild soap and hot water.
  4. Wipe the surfaces clean with a wet cloth and dry thoroughly.

Initial Seasoning:

Before first use, the cast-iron plates require initial seasoning to create a non-stick surface and prevent rusting. This process should be performed in a well-ventilated area as some smoke may occur.

  1. Plug in the grill.
  2. Turn the thermostat to the maximum setting (570°F).
  3. Switch the unit ON. Allow the unit to heat for approximately 45 minutes until any factory sediments burn off and smoke subsides.
  4. Turn the unit OFF and allow it to cool completely.
  5. Pour a small amount of shortening or vegetable oil onto a brush or towel.
  6. Apply the oil evenly to both the top and bottom plates and their outer edges.
  7. Allow the oil to set and dry on the plates. The plates will season automatically upon use, developing a natural non-stick surface.

3. Operating Instructions

Powering On and Preheating:

  1. Ensure the grill is plugged into a compatible 120V power outlet.
  2. Turn the main power switch to the ON position. The POWER indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Set the desired cooking temperature using the adjustable thermostat dial. For most applications, a temperature between 350°F and 420°F is suitable.
  4. Allow the grill to preheat until the READY indicator light illuminates, signaling that the set temperature has been reached. This typically takes 10-15 minutes depending on the selected temperature.

Cooking:

  1. Once preheated, carefully place food items onto the bottom grill plate.
  2. Gently lower the top plate onto the food. The auto-balancing hinge will adjust to the thickness of the food.
  3. Cook until desired doneness is achieved. Cooking times will vary based on food type and thickness.
  4. Use heat-resistant utensils to remove cooked food from the grill.

Powering Off:

After use, turn the main power switch to the OFF position and unplug the unit from the power outlet. Allow the grill to cool completely before cleaning or storage.

4. Maintenance

Daily Cleaning of Cast-Iron Plates:

Regular cleaning helps maintain the performance and longevity of your grill.

  1. Ensure the grill is turned OFF and completely cooled.
  2. Use the included brush/scraper to remove any food residue from the grill plates, pushing it into the removable drip tray.
  3. Remove the drip tray and empty its contents. Wash the drip tray with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
  4. Wipe the grill plates with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining debris.
  5. Dry the plates thoroughly to prevent rust.

Re-Seasoning Grill:

To maintain the non-stick properties and prevent rusting, re-season the grill plates weekly or as needed, especially if food begins to stick. Follow the same steps as the initial seasoning process (Section 2, Initial Seasoning).

Exterior Cleaning:

Wipe the exterior stainless steel body with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can scratch the surface.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Grill not heating:
Check if the unit is properly plugged into a functioning power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the ON position and the thermostat is set to a temperature above 'LOW'. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
  • Food sticking to plates:
The grill plates may need re-seasoning. Follow the re-seasoning instructions in the Maintenance section. Ensure sufficient cooking oil or butter is used when cooking.
  • Uneven cooking:
Allow the grill to fully preheat until the READY light illuminates before placing food. Ensure food items are evenly distributed on the cooking surface.
  • Excessive smoke during operation (after initial seasoning):
This may indicate too much oil or grease on the plates, or food residue burning. Clean the plates thoroughly and ensure only a thin layer of oil is applied if re-seasoning.
