Compatibility Check

This Android touch screen radio upgrade is compatible with BMW 3 Series E90/E91/E92/E93 (2009-2013) and BMW 5 Series E60/E61 (2008-2010) vehicles that have a factory CIC iDrive system. It is not compatible with vehicles without a factory car screen or BMW 5 series F10 models. Ensure your car has an AUX-IN port for sound functionality. If not, an FM transmitter must be purchased separately.

Installation Guide

The installation process involves removing the original car radio components, connecting the new harness, and installing the new display unit. It is recommended to watch the full installation video before beginning.

Factory Radio Removal

  1. Carefully pry off the trim panel above the air vents using a plastic pry tool.
  2. Disconnect the hazard light and central lock button connectors from the trim panel.
  3. Remove the air vent assembly.
  4. Unscrew the screws securing the climate control panel.
  5. Gently pull out the climate control panel and disconnect its wiring harness.
  6. Unscrew the screws securing the original CD/radio unit.
  7. Pull out the original CD/radio unit and disconnect all cables, including the main power harness and fiber optic cable (if present).
  8. Remove the original display screen from the dashboard. Disconnect its cables.

Harness Connection

  1. Connect the provided power harness to the original car's main power connector.
  2. Note: If your car has a fiber optic cable (green color), please plug it into the power harness of the new unit.
  3. Connect the other end of the new power harness to the original CD/radio unit.
  4. Connect the 4G module to the designated port on the new display unit.
  5. Connect the GPS module to the designated port on the new display unit.
  6. Connect the USB cable to the new display unit.
  7. Connect the power cable to the new display unit.
  8. Connect the LVDS plug to the new display unit.

GPS Antenna & 4G Antenna Placement

Route the GPS antenna and 4G antenna cables to a suitable location on the dashboard, ensuring they are not obstructed for optimal signal reception. You can place them discreetly within the dashboard area or on top of the dashboard.

Reinstall The Panel

  1. Carefully place the new Android display unit into the dashboard opening.
  2. Reconnect the original CD/radio unit and secure it with screws.
  3. Reconnect the climate control panel and secure it with screws.
  4. Reinstall the air vent assembly.
  5. Reconnect the hazard light and central lock button connectors to the trim panel.
  6. Snap the trim panel back into place.

Important Note: Before fully reassembling the dashboard, please check all functions of the car radio, such as sound, FM radio, Bluetooth, etc., to ensure proper operation.

Operating Instructions

Screen Resolution Settings

To adjust the screen resolution for optimal display, navigate to the system settings on the Android unit. Select 'Factory Head Unit Parameter Setting' then 'Original Menu Resolution Adjustment'. Choose the appropriate resolution for your original car display, such as 'CCC 400x250' or other available options, to ensure proper scaling and clarity.

AUX Sound Settings

For audio output, ensure your original car's AUX input is activated. Access the original iDrive menu, go to 'Entertainment', and select 'External audio source' to choose 'Audio AUX'. This will enable sound from the Android unit through your car's speakers. Adjust treble and bass settings as desired within the AUX menu.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Aftermarket Backup Camera Installation (Optional)

If you wish to install an aftermarket backup camera, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the yellow RCA video cable from the backup camera to the 'CAMERA IN' port on the main unit.
  2. Connect the red power wire from the camera's video cable to the reverse light power source in your vehicle.
  3. Connect the short red wire labeled 'BACK' from the main unit's harness to the reverse light power source as well. This signals the unit to switch to the camera view when reverse gear is engaged.
  4. Route the camera cable neatly to the rear of the vehicle.

Backup Camera Screen Resolution Settings

After installing an aftermarket backup camera, you may need to adjust its settings for optimal display. Navigate to the system settings on the Android unit, then select 'Factory Head Unit Parameter Setting'. Under 'Rear Camera Type', choose 'Aftermarket Rear Camera' and select the appropriate camera type (e.g., AVM, AHD, TVI, 1080p) that matches your installed camera for the best image quality.
