Genmitsu 4AXIS-57

Genmitsu Rotary Module Kit 4AXIS-57 Instruction Manual

For PROVer XL 4030 V1 / PROVer XL 6050 Plus CNC Router Machines

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Genmitsu Rotary Module Kit (Model 4AXIS-57). This kit is designed to expand the capabilities of your PROVer XL 4030 V1 or PROVer XL 6050 Plus CNC machine, enabling 3D and hybrid 2D rotary carving or laser possibilities. It features a NEMA23 planetary geared stepper motor and a 4-jaw chuck for precise workpiece handling.

Safety Information

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and gloves when operating CNC machinery. Ensure the machine is powered off and unplugged before performing any installation, maintenance, or adjustments. Keep hands and loose clothing clear of moving parts. Refer to your CNC machine's primary safety manual for additional guidelines.

Setup and Installation

1. Prepare Your CNC Machine

Ensure your PROVer XL 4030 V1 or PROVer XL 6050 Plus CNC machine is powered off and unplugged. Clear the work area of any debris or existing fixtures.

2. Mount the Rotary Module

Position the rotary module and tailstock on the T-slot bed of your CNC machine. Use the provided mounting hardware to secure both components firmly. Ensure they are aligned parallel to the X-axis of your CNC machine.

3. Connect the Stepper Motor

Locate the Y1 motor connection on your CNC machine's control board. Disconnect the existing Y1 motor cable and connect the rotary module's stepper motor cable to this port. The rotary module will utilize the Y-axis driver for rotational movement.

4. Adjust Tailstock

Adjust the tailstock position to accommodate your workpiece length. The tailstock can be adjusted to clamp materials with lengths from 15mm to 215mm (with tailstock) or up to 275mm (without tailstock).

Operating Instructions

1. Workpiece Clamping

The 4-jaw chuck supports both forward and reverse mounting for various workpiece diameters. For forward mounting, the clamping range is 2-37mm. For reverse mounting, the range is 20-67mm. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and centered.

2. Software Configuration

To utilize the rotary module, your CNC control software (e.g., UGS, Carveco Maker) must be configured for 4-axis operation. This typically involves setting the Y-axis to control the rotational (A-axis) movement. You will need to adjust the $101 parameter (steps per millimeter for the Y-axis) based on the diameter of your workpiece to ensure accurate rotational movement. Consult your software's documentation for specific instructions on 4-axis setup and parameter adjustments.

3. Operation Parameters

The rotary module features a 10:1 reduction ratio, allowing for precise control. It offers a minimum rotation angle of 0.1° and a maximum angular speed of 480° per second. Adjust your carving parameters in your CAM software to match the material and desired detail.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the rotary module, especially the chuck jaws and tailstock, to prevent accumulation of dust and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the moving parts of the chuck and tailstock screw mechanism to ensure smooth operation.
  • Inspection: Before each use, inspect the module for any loose connections, worn parts, or damage. Tighten any loose screws.

Troubleshooting

  • Module Not Rotating:
    • Check if the stepper motor cable is securely connected to the Y1 port.
    • Verify that the CNC control software is correctly configured for 4-axis operation and the Y-axis is enabled.
    • Ensure the power supply to the CNC machine is adequate.
  • Inaccurate Rotation/Carving:
    • Confirm that the $101 parameter in your GRBL settings is correctly calibrated for the workpiece diameter.
    • Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and not slipping in the chuck.
    • Check for any mechanical play in the rotary module or tailstock.
  • Chuck Jaws Sticking:
    • Clean the chuck jaws and threads thoroughly to remove any debris.
    • Apply a small amount of lubricant to the chuck mechanism.
