3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  3. Press down on the latch and slide the cover off.
  4. Insert the 1300 mAh NiMH rechargeable battery pack into the compartment, ensuring the contacts align correctly.
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover and slide it until it clicks into place.

3.2 Charging the Batteries

Before initial use, fully charge the batteries. The T803 radios come with a dual bay charging dock.

  1. Connect the USB-C to USB-A cable to the charging dock and a compatible USB power source (not included).
  2. Place the radios into the charging bays. Ensure the charging contacts on the radio align with those on the dock.
  3. The battery indicator on the radio display will show charging status. A full charge typically takes several hours.

3.3 Attaching the Belt Clip

  1. Align the belt clip with the grooves on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the clip downwards until it locks securely into place.
  3. To remove, push the release tab on the clip and slide it upwards.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off and Volume

  1. To power on, press and hold the Power/Menu button until the display illuminates.
  2. To power off, press and hold the Power/Menu button until the display turns off.
  3. Rotate the volume knob located at the top of the radio to adjust the listening volume.

4.2 Channel and Privacy Code Selection

The T803 operates on 22 FRS channels and supports 121 privacy codes to minimize interference.

  1. Press the Menu button until the channel number flashes.
  2. Use the + or - buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
  3. Press Menu again, and the privacy code will flash.
  4. Use the + or - buttons to select a privacy code (1-121).
  5. Press Menu or the PTT button to confirm your selection.

4.3 Transmitting and Receiving

  1. Ensure all radios are set to the same channel and privacy code.
  2. To transmit, press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button located on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  3. Release the PTT button to listen for a response.

4.4 TALKABOUT App Integration (Bluetooth)

The T803 can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth to utilize the TALKABOUT app for enhanced features, especially in areas without cellular service.

  1. Download the TALKABOUT app from your smartphone's app store.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and radio.
  3. Open the TALKABOUT app and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your radio.
  4. Through the app, you can:
    • Share and track locations with other app users.
    • Send text messages off-grid.
    • Control various radio settings remotely.
