2. Important Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions when using a pressure cooker to reduce the risk of injury or damage.

  • Read all instructions before operating the pressure cooker.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the pressure cooker is used near children.
  • Do not place the pressure cooker in a heated oven.
  • Exercise extreme caution when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids.
  • Do not use the pressure cooker for purposes other than its intended use.
  • This pressure cooker operates under pressure. Improper use may result in scalding injury. Ensure the unit is properly closed before operating.
  • Never force the pressure cooker open. Ensure the internal pressure is completely released before opening.
  • Do not fill the unit over 2/3 full. When cooking foods that expand during cooking, such as rice or dried vegetables, do not fill the unit over 1/2 full.
  • Ensure the pressure release devices are not obstructed before use.

3. Setup and First Use

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all packaging materials from the pressure cooker and its components. Inspect the cooker for any signs of damage. If any damage is found, do not use the product and contact customer support.

3.2 Initial Cleaning

Before first use, wash the pressure cooker body and lid thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely. Ensure all parts, especially the gasket and valves, are clean and free of debris.

3.3 Component Check

Your Bergner Capri pressure cooker includes:

  • 1 Pressure Cooker Body
  • 1 Lid

Verify that all components are present and in good condition.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Filling the Cooker

Add ingredients and liquid to the pressure cooker. Do not exceed the maximum fill lines: 2/3 full for most foods, and 1/2 full for foods that expand (e.g., rice, beans).

4.2 Closing the Lid

Place the lid onto the cooker body. The 360° lockable clamps allow the lid to be secured at any position. Use the Turn-Open-Lift knob mechanism to securely close the lid. Twist the knob to engage the clamps and then lower the knob to lock. Ensure the lid is fully sealed and locked before applying heat.

4.3 Setting Pressure

The Bergner Capri offers two pressure settings:

  • L (Low Working Pressure): Approximately 60 kPa (kilopascals)
  • H (High Working Pressure): Approximately 100 kPa (kilopascals)

Select the desired pressure setting using the control on the lid. Refer to your recipe for the appropriate pressure level.

4.4 Cooking Under Pressure

Place the pressure cooker on a suitable heat source. Heat until the operating valve rises and steam begins to escape steadily. Reduce heat to maintain a steady, gentle steam release. Begin timing according to your recipe.

4.5 Releasing Pressure

The Bergner Capri features a 2-level steam release system for controlled pressure release. There are generally three methods for releasing pressure:

  • Natural Release: Remove the cooker from heat and allow pressure to drop naturally. This is suitable for foods that benefit from additional cooking time.
  • Quick Release: For faster pressure release, carefully turn the steam release valve to the vent position. Be cautious of escaping steam. This method is suitable for delicate foods.
  • Cold Water Release (for specific models/situations, consult recipe): Under a running cold water tap, direct water over the edge of the lid, avoiding the steam vent. This is the fastest method but should be used with caution and only when specified.

Once pressure is fully released, the safety indicator will drop, and the lid can be opened using the Turn-Open-Lift mechanism.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

5.1 Daily Cleaning

After each use, allow the pressure cooker to cool completely. Wash the cooker body and lid with warm, soapy water. The smooth stainless steel surface makes cleaning easy. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots.

5.2 Dishwasher Safety

The Bergner Capri pressure cooker is dishwasher safe. However, hand washing is recommended for the lid and its components (gasket, valves) to ensure thorough cleaning and to prolong their lifespan.

5.3 Gasket and Valve Maintenance

Regularly inspect the rubber gasket for cracks, hardening, or any signs of wear. Replace the gasket if it appears damaged or if steam leaks during cooking. Ensure the pressure release valve and safety valve are clear of food particles and operate freely. Clean them as needed.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your pressure cooker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pressure not building or steam leaking from lid.Lid not properly closed; gasket worn or improperly seated; food debris on rim; insufficient liquid.Ensure lid is securely locked. Check gasket for proper placement and condition; replace if damaged. Clean rim and lid. Add more liquid.
