3.2 Connecting the VIVE Wireless Dongle
The VIVE Ultimate Tracker requires a VIVE Wireless Dongle (sold separately) for connection. Each dongle can connect with one to five VIVE Ultimate Trackers.
- For VIVE Focus Vision, VIVE Focus 3, and VIVE XR Elite: Plug the VIVE Wireless Dongle directly into the headset for standalone VR content or PC VR content using wireless streaming.
- For PC VR content using wired streaming (with VIVE headsets): Plug the VIVE Wireless Dongle into your PC.
- For third-party SteamVR-supported headsets: The VIVE Wireless Dongle must be plugged into the PC. When plugged into the PC, VIVE Ultimate Tracker must be paired using SteamVR via VIVE Hub.
3.3 Pairing the Tracker(s)
- Ensure your VIVE Wireless Dongle is connected and recognized by your headset or PC.
- Power on the VIVE Ultimate Tracker by pressing and holding the power button until the indicator light illuminates.
- Follow the on-screen instructions within your headset's system software (for VIVE standalone headsets) or SteamVR (for PC VR setups) to pair the tracker.
- Repeat the pairing process for additional trackers, up to five per dongle.
3.4 Mounting the Tracker
The VIVE Ultimate Tracker features a quick-release mechanism for easy attachment and detachment, as well as a standard 1/4"-20 UNC screw-in mount for secure fastening to objects or accessories.
- Quick-Release: Align the tracker with a compatible quick-release base (e.g., on a VIVE accessory strap) and press firmly until it clicks into place. To detach, press the release buttons on the sides and pull the tracker away.
- Screw-in Mount: Use the included screw-in mount to attach the tracker to objects with a standard 1/4"-20 UNC thread. Ensure it is securely fastened.

3.5 Play Area Considerations
For optimal and safe use, ensure your play area measures at least 3m x 3m (approximately 10ft x 10ft) and maintain a distance of 1.5m (approximately 5ft) from any obstacles. Avoid using the tracker in extreme environments such as very low light or direct sunlight, as this can affect tracking performance.
4. Operation
4.1 Powering On/Off
- Power On: Press and hold the power button on the tracker until the indicator light turns on.
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button until the indicator light turns off.
4.2 Using in Virtual and Mixed Reality
Once paired, the VIVE Ultimate Tracker will automatically begin tracking your movements or the movements of the object it is attached to. Its two wide-FOV cameras and computer vision system provide instant spatial recognition, keeping virtual and physical movements synchronized.

4.3 Full-Body Tracking Configuration
For full-body tracking experiences, you can use multiple VIVE Ultimate Trackers. Content compatibility and the number of trackers used will determine the extent of full-body tracking. Typically, three trackers (e.g., for waist and feet) or five trackers (for more comprehensive body tracking) are used.
- Ensure all trackers are charged and paired to the same VIVE Wireless Dongle.
- Attach trackers to desired body parts using compatible straps or mounts (sold separately).
- Launch your VR application and follow any in-app instructions for tracker calibration.

4.4 Battery Life and Charging
The VIVE Ultimate Tracker offers up to 7 hours of continuous use on a single charge. When the battery is low, the indicator light will change color or flash. Recharge the tracker using the provided USB-C cable as described in Section 3.1.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the tracker. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals. Ensure the camera lenses are kept clean for optimal tracking performance.
- Storage: Store the tracker in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the tracker frequently. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% before storage.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Tracking Issues
- Poor Tracking Accuracy:
- Ensure the play area has adequate lighting (not too dark, not direct sunlight).
- Check that the tracker's cameras are clean and unobstructed.
- Verify that the VIVE Wireless Dongle is securely connected and within range.
- Ensure your VR headset is connected to 5 GHz Wi-Fi for optimal performance.
- Tracker Not Recognized:
- Confirm the tracker is powered on and fully charged.
- Re-pair the tracker with the VIVE Wireless Dongle/headset.
- Ensure the VIVE Wireless Dongle is correctly installed and recognized by your system.
6.2 Power and Charging Problems
- Tracker Not Charging:
- Check the USB-C cable for damage and ensure it's properly connected.
- Try a different USB power adapter or USB-C port.
