3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Powering the Alarm Host
- Connect the provided Type-C USB cable to the alarm host and plug the other end into a standard AC power adapter (not always included, but typically a standard USB wall adapter).
- Ensure the alarm host is always connected to AC power for continuous operation. The internal batteries serve as a backup for up to 8 hours during power outages.
- Verify that the 3 AAA backup batteries are correctly installed in the alarm host.
3.2 App Download and Connection
- Download the Smart Life App from your smartphone's app store (available on iOS and Android).
- Register or log in to your Smart Life account.
- Add the CPVAN Home Alarm System device within the app by following the on-screen instructions. Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network during the pairing process.

Figure 3.1: Smart Life App notification and alarm activation. This image illustrates a smartphone receiving a real-time notification from the Smart Life app about an alarm event, alongside the CPVAN alarm hub emitting a loud 120dB sound.
3.3 Pairing Sensors and Remotes
The system allows for expansion. You can add up to 24 door/window sensors and 10 remote controls to the central alarm host.
- Follow the instructions within the Smart Life App to add new sensors or remotes. Typically, this involves putting the alarm host into pairing mode and then triggering the sensor or remote.
- For door/window sensors, separate the two magnetic parts to trigger.
- For remotes, press any button to trigger.
3.4 Mounting Sensors and Host
- PIR Motion Detector (Host): Mount the host in a central location or an area where motion detection is critical, such as a hallway or living room. Ensure it has a clear line of sight and is not obstructed. It is wall-mountable.
- Door/Window Sensors: Install the two parts of each sensor on a door or window frame and its corresponding moving part. Ensure they are aligned and within 1 cm of each other when the door/window is closed.

Figure 3.2: Infrared motion detection. This image shows the CPVAN PIR motion sensor detecting movement at an entry door and down a staircase, with corresponding warning notifications displayed on a smartphone.

Figure 3.3: Child safety with CPVAN sensors. This image demonstrates the use of CPVAN door/window sensors and the motion sensor to protect children by alerting when they approach or open doors and windows.
4. Operating the System
4.1 Arming and Disarming
- Via Remote Control: Use the dedicated buttons on the remote to arm (lock icon) or disarm (unlock icon) the system. An SOS button is also available for immediate alarm activation.
- Via Smart Life App: Open the Smart Life App, select your CPVAN Home Alarm System, and use the on-screen controls to arm or disarm the system.
4.2 Alarm Triggers and Notifications
- When a door/window sensor is separated or the PIR motion sensor detects movement while armed, the alarm host will emit a 120-decibel siren.
- Simultaneously, the Smart Life App will send push notifications to your smartphone, alerting you to the triggered event.
- The SOS button on the remote control will also trigger the alarm and send notifications.

Figure 4.1: SOS function and app sharing. This image depicts an elderly person who has fallen, with an SOS remote control nearby, and a couple reacting to an SOS notification received on their smartphone, highlighting the system's emergency alert capabilities.
4.3 Scheduled Arm/Disarm
The Smart Life App allows you to set schedules for automatically arming and disarming your alarm system. This feature provides convenience and ensures your home is protected according to your daily routine.

Figure 4.2: Scheduled arm/disarm. This image displays four panels illustrating different times of day (7:00, 9:00, 18:00, 22:00) with corresponding actions to disarm or arm the security system, demonstrating the scheduled operation feature.
4.4 Operation During Power/WiFi Outage
In the event of a power or Wi-Fi outage, the alarm host's backup battery will sustain operation for up to 8 hours. During this time, the system will continue to detect motion and open doors/windows, triggering the 120dB alarm siren. However, app notifications will not be sent without an active Wi-Fi connection.

Figure 4.3: Alarm function during outage. This image shows a family watching television, with the CPVAN alarm hub emitting a red light, signifying that the 120dB alarm function remains active even during a power or Wi-Fi outage.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Battery Replacement
- Alarm Host: The host uses 3 AAA batteries for backup power. Replace them periodically or when the app indicates low battery.
- Door/Window Sensors and Remotes: These devices typically use coin cell batteries. Refer to the specific sensor/remote instructions for battery type and replacement procedures.
5.2 Cleaning
Wipe the alarm host and sensors with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can damage the devices.
5.3 Power Connection
Always ensure the alarm host is connected to its AC power adapter for optimal performance and to keep the backup batteries charged.
6. Troubleshooting
- False Alarms:
- Ensure the PIR motion sensor is placed away from direct heat sources, air vents, or areas where pets can easily trigger it.
- Verify door/window sensors are securely mounted and not shifting, causing false triggers.
- Check for environmental factors like strong drafts or vibrations.
- No App Alerts:
- Confirm your alarm host is connected to a stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Check your smartphone's internet connection.
- Ensure push notifications are enabled for the Smart Life App in your phone's settings.
- Verify the alarm host is powered via AC; app alerts require Wi-Fi.
- Sensors Not Pairing:
- Ensure the alarm host is in pairing mode as per app instructions.
- Check batteries in the sensor/remote.
- Try moving the sensor closer to the alarm host during pairing.
- Alarm Not Sounding:
- Verify the alarm host is powered on and connected to AC.
- Check if the system is armed.
- Ensure the volume setting in the app is not muted or set too low.
