1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the operation and maintenance of your BAOFENG UV-18L Two-Way Radio. The UV-18L is a versatile 4-band ham radio featuring a 1.77-inch LCD screen, 999 channels, USB-C charging, and NOAA weather alert capabilities. 3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
- Ensure the radio is powered off.
- Align the 1800mAh battery with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
- Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.
3.2 Antenna Attachment
- Screw the high-gain antenna clockwise onto the antenna connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
3.3 Charging the Battery
The UV-18L offers two charging methods:
- USB-C Charging: Connect the provided USB-C cable directly to the radio's USB-C port and to a power source (e.g., power bank, PC, car charger, laptop).
- Charger Base: Place the radio into the provided charging dock. Connect the US adapter to the dock and plug it into a wall outlet. The charging indicator light will show the charging status.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
To power on the radio, rotate the volume knob clockwise until you hear a click. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks.
4.2 Channel and Frequency Selection
The UV-18L supports 999 channels and operates on four bands: FM, VHF (144-148MHz), and UHF (420-450MHz). Use the keypad to directly input frequencies or navigate through stored channels. The 1.77-inch LCD screen displays current frequency and channel information.

4.3 Dual Watch and Dual Standby
The radio supports dual watch and dual standby functions, allowing you to monitor two different frequencies or channels simultaneously. Refer to the on-screen indicators for active monitoring.
4.4 Scanning Functions
The UV-18L features three scan modes:
- Time Scan: Scans channels for a set duration.
- Carrier Scan: Stops scanning when a signal is detected.
- Search Scan: Continuously scans until a signal is found.
- Additional scanning features include VFO scan range setting, channel scan, CTCSS/DCS scan, and the ability to add or remove channels from scan lists.
4.5 VOX Function
Voice Operated Exchange (VOX) allows for hands-free transmission. When enabled, the radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice. Adjust VOX sensitivity in the menu.
4.6 CTCSS/DCS and DTMF
CTCSS/DCS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System / Digital Coded Squelch): These functions help filter out unwanted signals, allowing you to hear only transmissions from radios using the same tone/code.
DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency): Used for various control functions, such as remote control of repeaters or selective calling.

4.7 NOAA Weather Alarm
The UV-18L includes a NOAA weather alarm function, providing alerts for severe weather conditions. Refer to the menu for enabling and configuring NOAA channels.
4.8 FM Radio
The radio can also function as an FM broadcast receiver. Activate the FM radio mode through the menu to listen to local FM stations.

6. Maintenance

Wipe the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. While the radio is waterproof, avoid submerging it unnecessarily.
6.2 Battery Care
- Charge the battery fully before first use.
