2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

General Chainsaw Safety

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a chainsaw.
  • Do not operate a chainsaw when you are tired, under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
  • Inspect the chainsaw before each use for damaged parts, loose fasteners, or any other condition that may affect its safe operation.
  • Ensure the work area is clear of obstacles and well-lit.
  • Avoid cutting small brush and saplings that may catch the chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.
  • Be aware of kickback. Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.

Battery Safety

  • Use only the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
  • When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another.
  • Do not expose a battery pack or appliance to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130°C (265°F) may cause explosion.
  • Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or appliance outside of the temperature range specified in the instructions.

Key Components:

  • Guide Bar: The metal bar that guides the saw chain.
  • Saw Chain: The cutting chain that rotates around the guide bar.
  • Chain Brake: A safety mechanism designed to stop the chain quickly in case of kickback.
  • Front Hand Guard: Protects the operator's hand from the chain.
  • Rear Handle: Main grip for operating the chainsaw.
  • Trigger Switch: Activates the motor.
  • Safety Lock Button: Must be pressed before the trigger can be engaged.
  • Oil Tank Cap: For filling the automatic chain oiler.
  • Tool-Free Tension Knob: Allows for easy adjustment of chain tension without additional tools.
  • Battery Pack: Provides power to the motor.
  • Battery Charger: Used to recharge the battery packs.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the battery charger to a standard power outlet.
  2. Insert the battery pack into the charger. Ensure it clicks into place.
  3. Allow the battery to charge fully. The charger will indicate when charging is complete (refer to charger's specific indicator lights).
  4. Always charge batteries in a well-ventilated area and away from flammable materials.

5.2 Installing the Guide Bar and Chain

  1. Ensure the battery is removed from the chainsaw.
  2. Place the chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges of the chain are facing the correct direction (refer to arrows on the chain and guide bar).
  3. Align the guide bar with the mounting studs on the chainsaw body.
  4. Carefully place the chain over the drive sprocket.
  5. Reinstall the side cover and hand-tighten the tool-free tension knob. Do not fully tighten yet.

5.3 Adjusting Chain Tension

  1. With the side cover loosely attached, use the tool-free tension knob to adjust the chain tension.
  2. The chain should be snug against the guide bar, but still able to be pulled freely by hand. There should be no slack on the underside of the guide bar.
  3. Once the tension is correct, fully tighten the tool-free tension knob to secure the guide bar and chain.
  4. Periodically check chain tension during operation, especially during the first hour of use, as new chains can stretch.

5.4 Adding Chain Oil

  1. Ensure the battery is removed.
  2. Locate the oil tank cap (refer to Figure 4.4).
  3. Unscrew the cap and fill the reservoir with high-quality bar and chain oil. Do not use waste oil or motor oil.
  4. Replace the cap securely.
  5. The chainsaw features an auto oiling system for continuous lubrication during operation. Regularly check the oil level.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Starting the Chainsaw

  1. Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted into the chainsaw.
  2. Ensure the chain brake is disengaged (pushed back towards the handle).
  3. Grip the rear handle firmly with one hand and the front handle with the other. Maintain a firm grip with both hands while operating.
  4. Press the safety lock button with your thumb.
  5. While holding the safety lock button, squeeze the trigger switch to start the chainsaw. Release the safety lock button once the chainsaw starts.

6.2 Cutting Techniques

  • Always stand firmly with your weight balanced on both feet.
  • Keep the chainsaw close to your body for better control.
  • Allow the chain to reach full speed before beginning a cut.
  • Do not force the chainsaw through the wood; let the chain do the work.
  • Be aware of the direction the wood will fall and ensure your escape path is clear.
  • When cutting a limb that is under tension, be aware of spring back.
  • Avoid cutting with the tip of the guide bar to prevent kickback.

6.3 Safety Features

  • Chain Brake: The chain brake is designed to stop the chain instantly in the event of kickback. Ensure it is functional before each use by engaging and disengaging it.
  • Safety Lock Button: This prevents accidental starting of the chainsaw. Always engage it when not actively cutting.
  • Low Kickback Bar and Chain: The chainsaw is equipped with a low kickback guide bar and chain to reduce the risk of kickback.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your chainsaw.

7.1 Chain Lubrication

The chainsaw features an automatic oiling system. Regularly check the oil level in the reservoir and refill with appropriate bar and chain oil as needed (refer to Section 5.4).

7.2 Chain Sharpening and Replacement

  • A sharp chain is crucial for safe and efficient cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when it becomes dull or damaged.
  • Refer to the chain manufacturer's instructions for proper sharpening angles and file sizes.
  • When replacing the chain, ensure it is the correct size and type for your chainsaw (10-inch full house chain).

7.3 Cleaning

  • After each use, remove the battery and clean the chainsaw.
  • Use a brush or compressed air to remove sawdust, chips, and debris from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing vents.
  • Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.

7.4 Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods. Charge them periodically if not in use.
  • If a battery is damaged or leaking, dispose of it properly according to local regulations.
