Appion G5TWIN Twin Cylinder Refrigerant Recovery Unit Instruction Manual

Model: G5TWIN | Brand: APPION

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Appion G5TWIN Twin Cylinder Refrigerant Recovery Unit. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the unit.

1.1 Safety Warnings

WARNING: Always wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when operating the Appion G5TWIN unit. This includes, but is not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, and appropriate clothing to prevent contact with refrigerants.

This machine is intended for use by certified professionals only. Read the side panel and this manual before using.

Ensure adequate ventilation when operating the unit to prevent accumulation of refrigerant vapors.

2. Product Features

The Appion G5TWIN is designed for rapid and reliable refrigerant recovery. Key features include:

  • Compact and Lightweight Design: Weighs approximately 24 lbs, making it portable and easy to transport to various job sites, including rooftops and plant rooms.
  • Twin Cylinders and Twin Condensers: Engineered for ultra-fast liquid and vapor recovery, significantly reducing recovery time.
  • Refrigerant-Isolated Crankcase: This patented design ensures that the internal components of the crankcase do not come into contact with refrigerant, protecting against corrosive and damaging contaminants and enhancing durability.
  • No Purge Necessary: Due to the isolated crankcase, there is no volume of refrigerant within the crankcase, eliminating the need for a purge function.
  • High-Speed Cooling Fan: A 7-inch, 10-blade turbine fan operates at 3000 RPM, blasting over 600 CFM of cooling air over the twin heads and condensers. This improved cooling efficiency aids in heat rejection, keeping the unit up to 50°F cooler even in high ambient conditions.
  • Direct Liquid Recovery: Capable of direct liquid recovery without machine throttling, ensuring efficient operation.
  • Wide Refrigerant Compatibility: Suitable for use with all common refrigerants, including R410A, and A2L refrigerants such as R32 and R1234yf.
  • Simple Two-Valve Unit Control: User-friendly interface for straightforward operation.
  • Field Serviceable Modular Construction: Designed for easy replacement of gauges and an easy-to-clean inlet filter screen, allowing for on-site repairs and maintenance.
  • Ergonomic Handle: Compact casing with a rubber over-molded ergonomic handle for comfortable carrying.
  • Angled Fittings: 45-degree angled fittings facilitate easy connection of larger diameter hoses.

5. Operation

Follow these steps for safe and effective refrigerant recovery.

5.1 General Recovery Procedure

  1. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
  2. Connect the IN port to the system being recovered and the OUT port to the recovery cylinder.
  3. Open the valves on the system and the recovery cylinder.
  4. Turn on the G5TWIN unit using the power switch.
  5. Monitor the pressure gauges to ensure proper operation and recovery progress.
  6. The unit is designed for direct liquid and vapor recovery without the need for throttling.
  7. Once recovery is complete, close the valves on the system and the recovery cylinder, then turn off the G5TWIN unit.
  8. Disconnect hoses carefully, being mindful of any residual pressure.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your G5TWIN unit.

6.1 Inlet Filter Screen

For best results, clean or replace the inlet filter screen often. A clogged filter can reduce recovery efficiency.

6.2 Field Serviceability

The G5TWIN features a modular design, allowing for easy field service. Components like gauges can be replaced, and internal parts are accessible for maintenance. Refer to the detailed service manual for specific repair procedures.

6.3 Crankcase Lubrication

The unit's crankcase is permanently lubricated and isolated from the refrigerant path, meaning it does not require regular oil changes or lubrication related to refrigerant exposure.

7. Troubleshooting

This section provides guidance for common issues. For complex problems, contact Appion technical support or a certified service technician.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Unit not powering onNo power supply, faulty power cord, tripped circuit breaker.Check power connection, inspect power cord, reset circuit breaker.
