4. Needed to Complete
To operate your E-flite UMX WACO, you will need the following items, which are not included in the box:

Image 4.1: Visual representation of required accessories: Battery, Charger, and Transmitter.
- Transmitter: A compatible Spektrum™ DSMX®/DSM2® 2.4GHz aircraft transmitter (DXS, DXe, DX6e, DX8e, DX6, DX8, DX9, iX12, iX20, etc.).
- Flight Battery: A 2S or 3S LiPo battery (e.g., 280–300mAh 2S or 3S LiPo with JST-PH connector).
- Battery Charger: A compatible LiPo battery charger.
5. Setup
Follow these steps to prepare your UMX WACO for its first flight:
- Charge Flight Battery: Fully charge your LiPo flight battery using a compatible LiPo charger. Always follow the charger's instructions and safety guidelines.
- Install Flight Battery: Carefully open the battery hatch on the aircraft. Connect the charged flight battery to the ESC/receiver unit. Secure the battery to prevent movement during flight.
- Bind Transmitter:
- Ensure your transmitter is powered off.
- Connect the flight battery to the aircraft. The receiver LED will begin to flash rapidly.
- Put your transmitter into bind mode (refer to your transmitter's manual for specific instructions).
- The receiver LED will turn solid when binding is complete.
- Disconnect the flight battery from the aircraft, then power off your transmitter.
- Control Surface Check:
- Power on your transmitter, then connect the flight battery to the aircraft.
- Verify that all control surfaces (ailerons, elevator, rudder) move correctly in response to your transmitter inputs.
- Ensure the AS3X system is active by gently moving the aircraft; control surfaces should make small, rapid corrections.
- Center Control Surfaces: Ensure all control surfaces are centered when the transmitter sticks are at neutral. Adjust linkages if necessary.

6. Operating
The UMX WACO is equipped with AS3X and optional SAFE Select technologies to enhance your flying experience.
6.1 AS3X Technology
AS3X (Artificial Stabilization – 3-aXis) works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence, making the aircraft feel like a much larger, expertly tuned model. It provides a locked-in feel without interfering with your control inputs.
6.2 SAFE Select Technology (Optional)
SAFE Select offers additional flight envelope protection, making it easier to fly for beginners or when you need an extra layer of stability. It provides:
- Pitch and Bank Angle Limits: Prevents the aircraft from over-pitching or over-banking.
- Automatic Self-Leveling: Returns the aircraft to level flight when the sticks are released.
- Panic Recovery Mode: Instantly returns the aircraft to level flight with the press of a button (if configured).
Refer to your transmitter and receiver manual for instructions on enabling and configuring SAFE Select.
6.3 Flight Preparation
- Choose an open flying area free from obstacles.
- Check weather conditions; avoid strong winds.
- Perform a range check of your radio system.
6.4 Takeoff and Landing
- Takeoff: Apply throttle smoothly and steer with the rudder. Once sufficient speed is gained, gently apply up elevator to lift off.
- Landing: Reduce throttle and align the aircraft with the runway. Maintain a slight nose-up attitude and gradually reduce throttle to a gentle touchdown.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your UMX WACO.
- Post-Flight Inspection: After each flight, inspect the airframe for any damage, cracks, or loose components. Check control surface hinges and linkages.
- Motor and Propeller: Ensure the propeller is securely attached and free from nicks or cracks. Check the motor for any debris or signs of overheating.
- Battery Care: Store LiPo batteries at a storage charge (approximately 3.8V per cell) when not in use. Do not overcharge or over-discharge.
- Cleaning: Clean the aircraft with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using solvents or harsh chemicals.
- Storage: Store the aircraft in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Aircraft does not respond to transmitter. | Not bound, low transmitter/receiver battery, incorrect model memory. | Re-bind aircraft, check/charge batteries, select correct model memory on transmitter. |
| Motor runs but propeller does not spin. | Loose propeller, damaged motor shaft. | Tighten propeller, inspect motor for damage. |
| Aircraft flies erratically or is difficult to control. | Control surfaces not centered, damaged control linkages, AS3X/SAFE calibration issue. | Check and center control surfaces, inspect linkages, re-calibrate AS3X/SAFE (refer to receiver manual). |
| Short flight times. | Battery not fully charged, old/damaged battery, aggressive flying. | Ensure full charge, replace old batteries, adjust flying style. |
