1. Important Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions when using this power tool to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and serious personal injury. Read all instructions carefully before operation.

General Power Tool Safety

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) and hearing protection. Use a dust mask if operation is dusty. Wear non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat, and heavy-duty gloves when appropriate. Dress properly; avoid loose clothing or jewelry that can get caught in moving parts.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.

Specific Chainsaw Safety

  • Kickback Prevention: Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Avoid contact with the guide bar tip.
  • Proper Grip: Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, with thumbs and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles.
  • Clear Work Area: Ensure no bystanders or pets are in the cutting area. Maintain a safe distance from other people and obstacles.
  • Stable Footing: Always maintain proper footing and balance. Do not overreach.
  • Battery and Charger: This product is a 'Tool Only' unit. Battery and charger are sold separately. Use only WEN 20V Max Lithium-Ion batteries and chargers.

4.2 Chain Oiling

The tool features an automatic chain oiler to ensure proper lubrication during operation. Regularly check the oil level and refill as needed.

  1. Locate the oil reservoir cap on the mini chainsaw head.
  2. Unscrew the cap and fill the reservoir with appropriate bar and chain oil. Do not overfill.
  3. Securely replace the cap.
  4. Periodically check the oil level during extended use.

4.3 Adjusting Chain Tension

Correct chain tension is vital for safe and efficient cutting. A loose chain can derail, and an overly tight chain can cause premature wear.

  1. Ensure the tool is off and the battery is removed.
  2. Loosen the bar retaining nut (if applicable, refer to specific tool diagram).
  3. Turn the chain tensioning screw (usually located near the bar) clockwise to tighten the chain or counter-clockwise to loosen it.
  4. The chain should be snug against the guide bar, but still able to be pulled freely by hand. There should be no sag on the underside of the guide bar.
  5. Retighten the bar retaining nut.

4.4 Using as a Pole Saw

When operating as a pole saw, maintain a firm grip and stable stance. Plan your cuts to avoid falling debris and ensure a clear path for the cut branch.

  1. Extend the telescoping pole to the desired length (see Section 4.6).
  2. Hold the pole saw firmly with both hands, ensuring a balanced grip.
  3. Position the saw chain against the branch, allowing the chain to reach full speed before beginning the cut.
  4. Apply light, steady pressure. Let the saw do the work. Avoid forcing the saw through the branch.
  5. Be aware of the branch's weight and direction of fall.

4.5 Using as a Mini Chainsaw

For smaller branches and precise pruning, the mini chainsaw head provides excellent control.

  1. Ensure the mini chainsaw head is detached from the pole saw handle.
  2. Hold the mini chainsaw firmly with one or two hands, depending on comfort and control needed for the task.
  3. Position the saw chain against the branch, allowing the chain to reach full speed before beginning the cut.
  4. Apply light, steady pressure.
  5. Always be mindful of kickback and maintain a secure grip.

4.6 Telescoping Pole Adjustment

The pole saw features a telescoping shaft that extends from 66 to 94.5 inches, allowing you to reach various heights.

  1. Loosen the locking collar or lever on the pole shaft.
  2. Extend or retract the pole to the desired length.
  3. Securely tighten the locking collar or lever to prevent the pole from slipping during operation.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your WEN 2-In-1 tool.

5.1 Cleaning

  • Always remove the battery before cleaning.
  • Use a brush or compressed air to remove sawdust, chips, and debris from the motor housing, chain, and guide bar.
  • Wipe down external surfaces with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

5.2 Chain Sharpening and Replacement

  • A dull chain will reduce cutting efficiency and increase the risk of kickback. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when necessary.
  • Refer to the chain manufacturer's instructions for proper sharpening techniques and file sizes.
  • When replacing the chain, ensure it is the correct size and type for your WEN 20752BT model.

5.3 Storage

  • Store the tool in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children.
  • Always attach the chain cover before storing to protect the chain and prevent accidental contact.
  • Remove the battery pack from the tool before storage.
