4. Initial Setup
4.1 Unpacking and First Use
- Remove the machine from its packaging and place it on a stable, flat surface.
- Remove all protective films and stickers.
- Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water.
- Place a container (at least 0.5L) under the coffee outlet.
- Plug the machine into a grounded power outlet.
- Press the Power button to turn on the machine. The buttons will flash as the machine heats up.
- Once stable, press any coffee button to start the rinsing cycle. The machine will dispense water. Repeat this process 2-3 times to thoroughly rinse the internal system.
4.2 Attaching the Milk Container

- Ensure the milk container is clean.
- Fill the milk container with fresh, cold milk up to the 'max' level indicator.
- Attach the milk container to the machine by sliding it into the designated slot on the right side until it clicks into place.
- Position the milk frothing nozzle over your cup.
5. Operating the Machine
5.1 Preparing Coffee (Espresso, Lungo, Ristretto)
- Ensure the machine is on and heated (buttons are stable).
- Lift the lever to open the capsule insertion area.
- Insert a Nespresso capsule.
- Close the lever.
- Place a cup under the coffee outlet. Adjust the drip tray if needed for taller cups.
- Press the desired coffee button (Ristretto, Espresso, or Lungo). The machine will start brewing and stop automatically.
- After brewing, lift the lever to eject the used capsule into the container.
5.2 Preparing Milk-Based Beverages
For milk-based drinks, ensure the milk container is filled with cold milk and properly attached.
- Fill the milk container with fresh, cold milk.
- Attach the milk container to the machine.
- Place your cup under the milk frothing nozzle and coffee outlet.
- Press the desired milk recipe button (Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Flat White, Caffè Latte, Hot Foam, or Hot Milk).
- The machine will automatically prepare the beverage, dispensing milk and then coffee (if applicable).
- After preparation, the "Rinse" indicator may light up, prompting you to clean the milk system.
Note: For optimal milk foam, use cold, fresh, semi-skimmed milk.
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Milk System Rinse: After each milk preparation, detach the milk container and press the "Rinse" button on the milk container itself. This will flush hot water through the nozzle.
- Drip Tray and Used Capsule Container: Empty and rinse daily.
- Water Tank: Empty and rinse the water tank daily, refilling with fresh water.
- Exterior: Wipe the machine's exterior with a damp cloth.
6.2 Weekly Cleaning
- Milk Container Disassembly: Disassemble the milk container components (lid, frothing nozzle, milk tube) and wash them thoroughly with warm soapy water. All components are dishwasher safe (top rack).
- Coffee Outlet: Clean the coffee outlet area with a damp cloth.
6.3 Descaling
The "Descale" indicator light will illuminate when descaling is required. Descaling removes mineral deposits that can affect machine performance and coffee taste.
- Refer to the Nespresso descaling kit instructions for detailed steps.
- Empty the drip tray and used capsule container.
- Fill the water tank with the Nespresso descaling solution and water as per the descaling kit instructions.
- Place a large container (at least 1L) under the coffee outlet and milk frothing nozzle.
- Follow the specific descaling procedure for your Gran Lattissima model, usually involving pressing and holding specific buttons.
- Rinse the machine thoroughly after descaling by running several cycles with fresh water.
7. Troubleshooting
