Product Overview
The SENCOR SWS 4270 Wireless Weather Station consists of a main display unit and a wireless outdoor sensor. The main unit displays all collected data, while the outdoor sensor transmits external temperature and humidity readings.

Figure 1: Front view of the SENCOR SWS 4270 main unit display. It shows outdoor temperature (10.0°C) and humidity (58%), indoor temperature (22.3°C) and humidity (54%), current time (12:38), and weather forecast icons (rainy).
Main Unit Display Elements:
- Weather Forecast Icon: Displays predicted weather conditions (Sunny, Partially Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy, Stormy).
- Outdoor Temperature & Humidity: Shows current temperature and relative humidity measured by the outdoor sensor.
- Indoor Temperature & Humidity: Shows current temperature and relative humidity measured by the main unit.
- Time & Date: Current time and date.
- Alarm Indicators: Icons for Alarm 1 and Alarm 2.
- Auto Dim Indicator: Shows if the automatic backlight dimming function is active.
- MAX/MIN Records: Displays maximum and minimum recorded values.
Outdoor Sensor:
The wireless outdoor sensor measures external temperature and humidity and transmits this data to the main unit. It is designed for outdoor use but should be protected from direct rain and sunlight for optimal accuracy and longevity.
Setup
1. Battery Installation
For the Outdoor Sensor:
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the outdoor sensor.
- Insert 2x 1.5V AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
For the Main Unit:
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit.
- Insert 3x 1.5V AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
- Alternatively, connect the provided DC 5V / 600mA power adapter to the main unit and a power outlet. The adapter is recommended for continuous display illumination.
2. Sensor Placement
- Place the outdoor sensor in a shaded, dry location, protected from direct sunlight and rain.
- Ensure the sensor is within a 50-meter range (open area) of the main unit for optimal signal transmission. Avoid large metal objects or electronic devices that may interfere with the 433 MHz signal.
- The main unit is designed for desktop placement.
3. Initial Synchronization
After inserting batteries into both units, the main unit will automatically search for the outdoor sensor. This process may take a few minutes. Once connected, the outdoor temperature and humidity will appear on the main unit's display. If synchronization fails, ensure both units are within range and re-insert batteries in both, starting with the outdoor sensor.
Operating Instructions
1. Setting Time and Date
Refer to the specific buttons on your device (usually labeled "MODE", "SET", or similar) to enter time/date setting mode. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to adjust values and the SET button to confirm and move to the next setting (e.g., hour, minute, year, month, day, 12/24 hour format).
2. Setting Alarms
The SWS 4270 features a dual alarm function. Press the "ALARM" button to cycle through Alarm 1, Alarm 2, and Alarm Off. To set an alarm, hold the "ALARM" button until the alarm time flashes. Use UP/DOWN buttons to adjust the hour and minute, and "ALARM" to confirm. A snooze function is also available, typically activated by pressing any button (except alarm off) when the alarm sounds.
3. Temperature Unit Selection (°C/°F)
Press the "°C/°F" button (or a similar labeled button) to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit display for temperature readings.
4. Backlight and Brightness Adjustment
The LCD color display offers 3 levels of brightness (Hi / Lo / Off). Use the "LIGHT" or "DIMMER" button to cycle through these settings. The programmable automatic dimming (night mode) function can be configured to adjust brightness automatically during specific hours.
5. Weather Forecast Interpretation
The weather station provides 12-24 hour forecasts based on barometric pressure changes. The icons represent:
- Sunny: Clear skies.
- Partially Cloudy: Some clouds, but mostly clear.
- Cloudy: Overcast skies.
- Rainy: Precipitation expected.
- Stormy: Thunderstorms or heavy rain expected.
Note: Weather forecasts are predictions and may not always be 100% accurate.
6. MAX/MIN Memory Records
The unit records maximum and minimum temperature and humidity values. Press the "MAX/MIN" button to view these records. To manually reset the records, hold the "MAX/MIN" button for a few seconds.
7. Multiple Sensor Support
The SWS 4270 supports up to 3 outdoor sensors (one included). If you have additional sensors, the main unit can automatically scroll through the measured data from all connected sensors. Refer to the additional sensor's manual for pairing instructions.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the main unit and sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the display or casing.
Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display for either the main unit or the outdoor sensor, replace the batteries promptly. Follow the battery installation steps outlined in the "Setup" section.
Storage
If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove all batteries to prevent leakage and store it in a cool, dry place.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display on main unit. | Batteries are dead or incorrectly inserted; power adapter not connected. | Check battery polarity and replace if necessary. Ensure power adapter is securely connected. |
| Outdoor temperature/humidity not displayed or incorrect. | Sensor out of range; low battery in sensor; interference; sensor not synchronized. | Move sensor closer to main unit. Replace sensor batteries. Avoid placing near electronic devices. Re-synchronize by re-inserting batteries in both units. |
| Inaccurate weather forecast. | Weather forecasts are based on barometric pressure trends and are not always exact. | This is normal. The forecast is an indication, not a guarantee. |
| Display too dim or too bright. | Backlight setting needs adjustment; auto-dim function active. | Adjust brightness using the "LIGHT" or "DIMMER" button. Check auto-dim settings. |
