Operating Instructions
Basic Cable Testing (Wiremap)
- Connect one end of the cable to be tested to the "PORT" input on the main TDR unit.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding port on the Wire Tracker Receiver.
- Select the "TEST" mode on the main unit.
- The display will show the wiremap, indicating continuity, open circuits, short circuits, split pairs, or miswires.
Cable Length Measurement (TDR)
- Ensure the cable is disconnected from any network devices.
- Connect one end of the cable to the "PORT" input on the main TDR unit. Leave the other end open.
- Select the "SCAN" mode or TDR function.
- The display will show the cable length in feet or meters. Use the "ft/m" button to toggle units.
- The TDR function can also locate the distance to faults like open or short circuits.
PoE Detection
- Connect the cable from the PoE source to the "POE" input on the main TDR unit.
- Select the "POE" mode.
- The display will indicate if PoE is present and identify the PoE standard (802.3AF, 802.3AT, 802.3BT).
Wire Tracking (with Receiver)
- Connect the cable to be traced to the main TDR unit.
- Activate the "SCAN" or tone generation function on the main unit.
- Use the Wire Tracker Receiver to follow the cable path. The receiver will emit an audible tone and/or illuminate LEDs when near the cable carrying the signal.
- Adjust the sensitivity on the receiver using the rotary dial for optimal tracing.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
Storage
Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
Battery Replacement
Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Dispose of old batteries according to local regulations.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Replace batteries or ensure correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate cable length readings. | Incorrect NVP (Nominal Velocity of Propagation) setting; cable not fully disconnected. | Adjust NVP setting according to cable type; ensure cable is open-ended for TDR measurement. |
| Wiremap shows errors (e.g., open, short). | Actual cable fault; poor connection. | Inspect cable for damage; re-seat connectors firmly. |
| No PoE detection. | No PoE supply on the line; incorrect port used. | Verify PoE source; ensure cable is connected to the dedicated PoE port on the tester. |
