4. Setup and Preparation

4.1. Floor Jack Preparation

  1. Assemble Handle: Insert the handle into the handle socket on the floor jack. Secure it according to the manufacturer's instructions (if applicable, some handles are two-piece).
  2. Purge Air (Bleeding): Before first use, or if the jack has been stored for a long time, it may be necessary to purge air from the hydraulic system.
    • Turn the release valve counter-clockwise one full turn to open it.
    • Pump the handle rapidly 10-15 times without a load.
    • Turn the release valve clockwise to close it. The jack should now operate smoothly.
  3. Check Hydraulic Fluid: Ensure the hydraulic fluid level is adequate. Refer to the maintenance section for details on checking and refilling fluid.

4.2. Jack Stand Preparation

The jack stands are ready for use out of the box. Familiarize yourself with the height adjustment mechanism:

5. Operating Instructions

Always follow the safety guidelines in Section 2 before proceeding.

5.1. Lifting a Vehicle with the Floor Jack

  1. Prepare Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a hard, level surface. Engage the parking brake and place the transmission in "Park" (automatic) or a low gear (manual). Chock the wheels that will remain on the ground.
  2. Position Jack: Locate the vehicle manufacturer's recommended lifting point. Position the floor jack so its saddle is directly under this point. Ensure the load will be centered on the saddle.
  3. Raise Vehicle: Turn the release valve clockwise until it is firmly closed. Pump the jack handle up and down to raise the vehicle to the desired height. Do not raise the vehicle higher than necessary.
  4. Insert Jack Stands: Once the vehicle is lifted, immediately place jack stands under the vehicle's frame or other manufacturer-specified support points, adjacent to the jack. Adjust the jack stands to the appropriate height, ensuring the ratchet bar is fully engaged.
  5. Lower onto Jack Stands: Slowly turn the release valve counter-clockwise to gradually lower the vehicle onto the jack stands. Ensure the vehicle is securely seated on both jack stands before removing the floor jack.
  6. Remove Jack: Once the vehicle is safely supported by the jack stands, remove the floor jack.

5.2. Lowering a Vehicle

  1. Position Jack: Place the floor jack saddle under the vehicle's lifting point, ensuring it is centered.
  2. Lift Slightly: Turn the release valve clockwise to close it, then pump the jack handle a few times to lift the vehicle slightly off the jack stands.
  3. Remove Jack Stands: Carefully remove the jack stands from under the vehicle.
  4. Lower Vehicle: Slowly turn the release valve counter-clockwise to gradually lower the vehicle to the ground. Once fully lowered, remove the floor jack and wheel chocks.

6. Maintenance

6.1. General Maintenance

6.2. Hydraulic Fluid Check and Refill (Floor Jack)

Check the hydraulic fluid level every three months or if the jack's performance degrades.

  1. Position the jack on a level surface and fully lower it.
  2. Locate and remove the oil filler plug (usually a rubber stopper).
  3. The fluid level should be just below the filler hole. If low, add high-quality hydraulic jack oil. Do not use brake fluid or motor oil.
  4. Replace the filler plug.
  5. Purge any air from the system as described in Section 4.1.
