- Clone Button: Initiates the offline cloning process.
- Power Input: USB-C port for connecting the external power adapter.
- Type-C Data Port: USB-C port for connecting to a computer for online mode.
- Online/Clone Switch: Toggles between online (external enclosure) and offline (cloning) modes.
- LED Indicators: Display cloning progress (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), Source/Target drive status, and power status.
4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to install your NVMe SSDs into the enclosure.
- Open the Enclosure: Use the provided screwdriver to carefully remove the screw securing the top cover of the enclosure. Gently lift and remove the cover.
- Install NVMe SSDs: Insert your NVMe SSDs into the designated slots. Ensure they are fully seated. Secure them with the provided rubber holders or screws, depending on the design.
- Apply Thermal Pads: Place the included thermal pads onto the NVMe SSDs. These pads help dissipate heat to the enclosure's metal casing.
- Close the Enclosure: Carefully place the top cover back onto the enclosure, aligning it properly. Secure it with the screw removed in step 1.
- Connect Power: Connect the external power adapter to the Power input port on the enclosure.
- Connect to Computer (for Online Mode): Use the provided USB Type-C to Type-C or Type-C to Type-A cable to connect the enclosure's Type-C data port to your computer.

5. Operating Modes
5.1. Online Mode (External Enclosure)
In Online Mode, the enclosure functions as an external dual NVMe SSD drive, accessible by your computer.
- Ensure NVMe SSDs are installed as per Section 4.
- Connect the external power adapter to the enclosure.
- Set the Online/Clone switch to Online.
- Connect the enclosure to your computer using the appropriate USB cable (Type-C to Type-C or Type-C to Type-A).
- Your computer should detect the installed NVMe SSDs as external storage devices. You may need to initialize and format new SSDs through your operating system's disk management utility before use.
5.2. Offline Cloning Mode
The offline cloning function allows you to duplicate the contents of a source NVMe SSD to a target NVMe SSD without requiring a computer connection.
Important Considerations for Cloning:
- The target SSD must be equal to or larger in capacity than the source SSD. If the target SSD is smaller, cloning will fail.
- All data on the target SSD will be overwritten during the cloning process. Ensure you have backed up any important data from the target SSD before proceeding.
- Ensure both SSDs are healthy and free from errors for a successful clone.
Cloning Procedure:
- Ensure NVMe SSDs are installed as per Section 4.
- Insert the Source SSD into the designated Source slot and the Target SSD into the designated Target slot.
- Connect the external power adapter to the enclosure's Power input port. Do not connect the enclosure to a computer.
- Set the Online/Clone switch to Clone.
- Press and hold the Clone button for approximately 5 seconds until the LED indicators (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, Source, Target, Power) illuminate.
- Briefly press the Clone button again (within 5 seconds of the lights illuminating) to start the cloning process.
- The LED indicators will show the cloning progress (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%). The Source and Target LEDs will remain lit during the process.
- Once cloning is complete, all LED indicators will remain steadily lit.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the SSDs.
A 512 GB drive to a 2 TB drive clone may take approximately 20 minutes, depending on the drive speed and data volume.
6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ICY BOX enclosure:
- Keep the enclosure clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
- The enclosure's aluminum casing and thermal pads are designed for heat dissipation. Ensure proper airflow around the device during operation, especially during cloning or heavy data transfer.
- Do not attempt to open the enclosure beyond what is necessary for SSD installation, as this may void the warranty.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ICY BOX enclosure, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Device not detected by computer:
- Ensure the Online/Clone switch is set to Online.
- Verify all USB cables are securely connected to both the enclosure and the computer.
- Try a different USB port on your computer.
- Ensure the external power adapter is connected and providing power.
- Check if the NVMe SSDs are properly seated in their slots.
- For new SSDs, ensure they are initialized and formatted in your operating system's disk management.
- Cloning process fails or does not start:
- Ensure the Online/Clone switch is set to Clone.
- Verify the external power adapter is connected and providing power.
- Crucially, ensure the target SSD's capacity is equal to or larger than the source SSD's capacity.
- Ensure the enclosure is not connected to a computer during offline cloning.
- Confirm both Source and Target SSDs are properly installed and functional.
- Follow the cloning procedure steps precisely, especially the timing for pressing the Clone button.
- Slow data transfer speeds:
- Ensure you are using a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) compatible port on your computer and the provided cables.
- Check the performance of your NVMe SSDs.
