Setup and Installation
Before beginning installation, ensure your system is powered off and unplugged. Refer to your motherboard's manual for specific CPU socket preparation instructions.
Compatibility Check:
The SE-224-XTS supports Intel LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA115X (1150, 1151, 1155, 1156) and AMD AM4, AM5 sockets. Verify your CPU socket type before proceeding.

Installation Steps (General Guide):
- Prepare CPU and Motherboard: Clean the CPU surface thoroughly. Apply a thin, even layer of thermal paste to the center of the CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS).
- Install Backplate (if required): For Intel sockets, install the appropriate backplate behind the motherboard. For AMD sockets, the stock backplate is typically used.
- Attach Mounting Brackets: Secure the correct mounting brackets to the heatsink base according to your CPU socket type.
- Mount Heatsink: Carefully align the heatsink with the mounting holes on the motherboard and gently lower it onto the CPU. Secure the heatsink using the provided screws, tightening them in a diagonal pattern until snug. Do not overtighten.
- Attach Cooling Fan: Use the included fan clips to attach the 120mm PWM fan to the heatsink. Ensure the fan is oriented to blow air through the heatsink fins towards the rear or top of your PC case for optimal airflow.
- Connect Fan Cable: Plug the 4-pin PWM fan cable into the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.
Note on RAM Compatibility: The SE-224-XTS features a specially designed heatsink with a slant to ensure 100% memory compatibility, allowing clearance for tall RAM modules on most motherboards.

Operation
Once installed, the ID-COOLING SE-224-XTS operates automatically. The 120mm PWM fan's speed is controlled by your motherboard based on CPU temperature, ensuring efficient cooling when needed and quiet operation during lighter loads.

Figure 8: The 120mm PWM fan, capable of adjusting speeds between 600-1500 RPM for precise control over noise and airflow.
For optimal performance, ensure proper airflow within your PC case. Good case ventilation helps the cooler dissipate heat more effectively.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your CPU cooler.
- Dust Removal: Periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months), power off your system and use compressed air to remove dust buildup from the heatsink fins and fan blades. Dust accumulation can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency.
- Fan Inspection: Check the fan for any obstructions or unusual noises. Ensure the fan blades are clean and spin freely.
- Thermal Paste: While not frequently required, if you remove the cooler for any reason, it is recommended to clean off old thermal paste from both the CPU and cooler base and apply a fresh layer before reinstallation.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ID-COOLING SE-224-XTS, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| High CPU Temperatures | Improper installation, insufficient thermal paste, dust buildup, poor case airflow. | Re-seat cooler, re-apply thermal paste, clean heatsink/fan, improve case ventilation. |
| Fan Not Spinning or Spinning Slowly | Fan cable disconnected, incorrect motherboard header, fan malfunction. | Ensure 4-pin fan cable is securely connected to CPU_FAN header. Check BIOS settings for fan control. If issue persists, contact support. |
| Excessive Fan Noise | Dust buildup, fan bearing issue, fan hitting cables, high fan speed due to high CPU load. | Clean fan blades, ensure no cables are obstructing fan, check CPU temperatures and adjust fan curve in BIOS if necessary. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact ID-COOLING customer support.
