Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless 6-inch Compact Pruning Mini Chainsaw (Model P25013BTL). Please read all instructions carefully before use to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage.
This tool is designed for light pruning and limbing tasks, capable of cutting branches up to 4 inches in diameter. It is part of the Ryobi ONE+ 18V system, utilizing a compatible 18V ONE+ battery (battery and charger sold separately).
Safety Information
Operating any chainsaw requires strict adherence to safety guidelines. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear.
- Keep hands and body clear of the chain and guide bar during operation.
- Ensure a firm grip on the tool with both hands.
- Do not operate the chainsaw in wet conditions or near flammable liquids or gases.
- Remove the battery pack before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool.
- Be aware of kickback, which can occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper tip of the guide bar or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
- Inspect the work area for obstacles, bystanders, and proper footing.
Refer to the warning label on the tool for additional safety instructions.

Image Description: A Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless 6-inch Compact Pruning Mini Chainsaw. The tool features a lime green and black housing. The handle is at the rear, designed for a comfortable grip. The 6-inch guide bar and chain are prominently displayed, with 'RYOBI' and '6 IN. 152.4mm' printed on the bar. The tool-less chain tensioning knob is visible on the side of the chain cover.
Setup
- Battery Installation: Ensure the battery (not included) is fully charged. Align the battery pack with the tool's battery port and slide it in until it clicks securely into place. To remove, press the release latch and slide the battery out.
- Chain Tensioning: This tool features tool-less chain tensioning. Locate the tensioning knob on the side of the chain cover. Turn the knob clockwise to increase chain tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. The chain should be snug against the guide bar, allowing it to be pulled around the bar by hand without binding, but not so loose that it sags underneath.
- Chain Lubrication: Although this model has an oil-free design for the motor, it is crucial to manually lubricate the chain and guide bar before and during use. Apply a lightweight bar and chain oil (e.g., Ryobi chain lub or 3-in-1 oil) directly to the chain and guide bar groove. This reduces friction, prevents overheating, and extends the life of the chain and bar. Reapply lubrication periodically during extended operation.
Operating Instructions
- Starting the Chainsaw: With the battery installed and chain properly tensioned and lubricated, hold the tool firmly with both hands. Press the safety lock-out button (if present) and then squeeze the trigger to start the motor. Release the trigger to stop the tool.
- Cutting Technique:
- Always maintain a stable stance and clear work area.
- Allow the chain to reach full speed before contacting the wood.
- Apply light pressure. Let the saw do the work.
- For pruning, make an undercut first to prevent bark stripping, then complete the cut from the top.
- Avoid cutting branches that are under tension, as they can spring back unexpectedly.
- Do not use the tip of the guide bar for cutting to minimize kickback risk.
- Stopping the Chainsaw: Release the trigger switch. The chain will stop quickly. Always remove the battery when not in use or when moving between work areas.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, remove the battery and use a brush or compressed air to clear sawdust, chips, and debris from the guide bar, chain, and motor housing vents.
- Chain Lubrication: As mentioned in the setup, regularly apply bar and chain oil to the chain and guide bar groove to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear.
- Chain Sharpening: A dull chain will not cut efficiently and can cause the tool to overheat. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when necessary. Consult a professional if unsure about sharpening.
- Chain Replacement: When the chain is worn or damaged beyond sharpening, replace it with a compatible chain, such as the RY6C1 6-inch Replacement Chain. Follow the instructions in the tool's full manual for safe chain replacement.
- Storage: Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure location out of reach of children. Ensure the battery is removed before storage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Chainsaw does not start | Battery not inserted correctly or discharged; Safety lock-out not engaged; Faulty switch. | Ensure battery is fully charged and properly seated. Press safety lock-out before trigger. If problem persists, contact service. |
| Chain does not cut efficiently | Dull chain; Incorrect chain tension; Insufficient lubrication. | Sharpen or replace chain. Adjust chain tension. Apply bar and chain oil. |
| Chainsaw overheats | Lack of lubrication; Overworking the tool; Blocked vents. | Ensure adequate chain lubrication. Do not force the tool. Clean cooling vents. |
| Excessive vibration | Damaged chain or guide bar; Loose components. | Inspect chain and guide bar for damage and replace if necessary. Check all fasteners for tightness. |
