Setup and Installation

1. Prepare the MicroSD Card

The VIOFO A229 Pro supports MicroSD cards up to 512GB. For optimal performance and durability, VIOFO strongly recommends using industrial-grade MicroSD cards. Ensure the card is formatted before first use in the dashcam settings.

2. Mount the Front Camera

  1. Clean the windshield area where the camera will be mounted.

  2. Connect the rear camera to the front camera using the provided 6-meter rear camera cable. Route the cable neatly along the vehicle's headliner and A-pillars using the trim removal tool.

4. Connect Power and GPS

  1. Connect the car charger to the front camera and plug it into your vehicle's 12V power outlet (cigarette lighter).
  2. The GPS module is integrated into the front camera mount. Ensure it is properly attached for accurate location and speed data.

Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: The dashcam will automatically power on and begin recording when your vehicle starts and power off when the engine is turned off.
  • Recording: Continuous loop recording is the default mode. Videos are saved in segments (e.g., 1, 3, 5 minutes) and older files are overwritten when the MicroSD card is full, unless locked.
  • Emergency Recording: The G-sensor detects sudden impacts or rapid acceleration/deceleration and automatically locks the current video file to prevent it from being overwritten. You can also manually trigger emergency recording via voice command or a dedicated button (if available).

Advanced Features

Dual Sony STARVIS 2 Sensors & HDR

The A229 Pro utilizes dual Sony STARVIS 2 sensors (IMX678 for front, IMX675 for rear) for superior image quality. This technology, combined with HDR (High Dynamic Range), provides a wider dynamic range and higher light sensitivity, resulting in clearer videos with less image noise and motion blur, both day and night. It ensures accurate detail capture, even in challenging lighting conditions.

Intelligent Voice Control

Manage your dashcam hands-free using voice commands. The A229 Pro supports English voice commands for actions such as:

  • "Lock the video"
  • "Take photo"
  • "Turn on Wi-Fi"
  • "Turn off Wi-Fi"
  • "Turn on audio"
  • "Turn off audio"

The dashcam will provide voice notifications to confirm setting changes or important events, helping you keep your attention on the road.

Ultra-Precise GPS Module

The integrated GPS module supports four satellite systems: GPS, BEIDOU, GALILEO, and GLONASS. This multi-system support enhances positioning accuracy and stability. Recorded videos will include detailed vehicle location, speed, and time data, which can be viewed in the VIOFO app or on a computer.

5GHz Wi-Fi & App Control

The A229 Pro features an upgraded 5GHz Wi-Fi module for faster data transfer. This allows for seamless video previewing, downloading, and sharing directly to your smartphone via the VIOFO app (available on Google Play and App Store). The app provides easy Wi-Fi configuration, live preview, and access to recorded videos.

Parking Mode (Requires Optional Hardwire Kit)

The dashcam offers three parking mode options to monitor your vehicle when parked. To enable parking mode, an optional VIOFO HK4 Hardwire Kit must be purchased and installed separately to provide continuous power.

  • Auto Event Detection: Automatically starts recording when motion or impact is detected.
  • Time Lapse Recording: Continuously records video at a low frame rate (e.g., 1/2/3/5/10/15 fps) to save storage space while covering long periods.
  • Low Bitrate Recording: Records continuously in smaller file sizes, allowing for extended recording times in parking mode.

Maintenance

  • MicroSD Card: Regularly format your MicroSD card (at least once a month) within the dashcam settings to maintain optimal performance and prevent data corruption. Replace the card if you experience frequent errors or degraded performance.
  • Lens Cleaning: Gently clean the camera lenses with a soft, lint-free cloth to ensure clear recordings. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the VIOFO official website periodically for firmware updates. Keeping your dashcam's firmware up-to-date can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs.
  • Cable Connections: Ensure all cables (power, rear camera) are securely connected to prevent intermittent issues.
