  2. Filling the Water Tank:
    • Ensure the iron is unplugged and cool.
    • Open the water fill opening.
    • Fill the water tank with distilled or demineralized water up to the MAX fill line. Do not overfill.
    • Close the water fill opening securely.
  3. Power Connection: Extend the retractable cord by gently pulling it out. Plug the iron into a standard electrical outlet.
  4. Initial Heating: For first use, allow the iron to heat up on a high setting for a few minutes to burn off any manufacturing residues. You may notice a slight odor or smoke, which is normal.

Operating Instructions

Temperature Control and Fabric Selection

The CHI Steam Iron features an electronic temperature control with a fabric guide, eliminating guesswork.

  1. Identify the fabric composition of the garment you wish to iron.
  2. Turn the Temperature Control Dial to the appropriate fabric setting (e.g., Linen, Cotton, Wool, Silk, Synthetic). The iron will automatically adjust to the correct temperature.

Cleaning the Soleplate

To maintain the smooth glide of the Lava Ceramic Soleplate:

Self-Clean Function

Regularly use the self-clean function to remove mineral buildup and maintain optimal steam performance.

  1. Fill the water tank to the MAX line with tap water.
  2. Plug in the iron and set the temperature to MAX.
  3. Once the iron reaches temperature, unplug it.
  4. Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
  5. Press and hold the Self-Clean Button (if available, otherwise refer to the dial for "self clean" marking). Hot water and steam will flush out mineral deposits from the steam holes.
  6. Gently rock the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
  7. Plug the iron back in and heat it to dry the soleplate. Unplug and store once cool.

Storage

Always store the iron upright on its heel rest, with the cord retracted, once it has completely cooled down and the water tank is empty.
