Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the CHI Steam Iron. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and care of your new appliance. Please read all instructions carefully before use and retain this manual for future reference.
Important Safety Instructions
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions before using the iron.
- Use iron only for its intended use.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
- Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging from the electrical outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
- Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
- Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use.
- Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron; take it to a qualified serviceman for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
- Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
- Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down – there may be hot water in the reservoir.
- This appliance is for household use only.

Operating Instructions
Temperature Control and Fabric Selection
The CHI Steam Iron features an electronic temperature control with a fabric guide, eliminating guesswork.
- Identify the fabric composition of the garment you wish to iron.
- Turn the Temperature Control Dial to the appropriate fabric setting (e.g., Linen, Cotton, Wool, Silk, Synthetic). The iron will automatically adjust to the correct temperature.
- Wait for the indicator light to turn off, signaling that the iron has reached the selected temperature.

Steam Ironing
For effective wrinkle removal, use the powerful steam function.
- Ensure the water tank is filled.
- Set the temperature control to a steam-appropriate setting (usually Cotton or Linen for maximum steam). Steam will not be generated at lower temperatures to prevent water dripping.
- Once the iron reaches the desired temperature, press the Steam Button to release a burst of steam. For continuous steam, ensure the steam setting is engaged.
- Glide the iron over the fabric. The 400+ steam holes ensure even steam distribution.

Dry Ironing
For delicate fabrics or when steam is not desired, the iron can be used dry.
- Ensure the water tank is empty or the steam function is turned off.
- Set the temperature control to the desired fabric setting.
- Iron the garment without pressing the steam button.
Retractable Cord
The 8-foot retractable cord offers convenient storage.
- To retract the cord, ensure the iron is unplugged and cool.
- Press and hold the Retractable Cord Button. The cord will automatically retract into the iron body. Guide the cord gently to prevent tangling.

3-Way Auto Shutoff
For safety, the iron is equipped with a 3-way auto shutoff feature:
- If left motionless on its soleplate, the iron will shut off after 30 seconds.
- If left motionless on its side, the iron will shut off after 30 seconds.
- If left motionless on its heel rest, the iron will shut off after 8 minutes.
- To reset the iron after auto shutoff, simply move it.
Maintenance and Care
Cleaning the Soleplate
To maintain the smooth glide of the Lava Ceramic Soleplate:
- Ensure the iron is unplugged and completely cool.
- Wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth and a non-abrasive liquid cleaner.
- Do not use abrasive scouring pads or metal cleaners, as these can scratch the soleplate.
Self-Clean Function
Regularly use the self-clean function to remove mineral buildup and maintain optimal steam performance.
- Fill the water tank to the MAX line with tap water.
- Plug in the iron and set the temperature to MAX.
- Once the iron reaches temperature, unplug it.
- Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
- Press and hold the Self-Clean Button (if available, otherwise refer to the dial for "self clean" marking). Hot water and steam will flush out mineral deposits from the steam holes.
- Gently rock the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
- Plug the iron back in and heat it to dry the soleplate. Unplug and store once cool.
Storage
Always store the iron upright on its heel rest, with the cord retracted, once it has completely cooled down and the water tank is empty.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Iron does not heat up. | Not plugged in; power outage; auto shutoff activated. | Check power connection; check circuit breaker; move iron to reset auto shutoff. |
| No steam or insufficient steam. | Water tank empty; temperature too low; steam holes clogged. | Fill water tank; set temperature to steam-appropriate setting; perform self-clean. |
| Water leaks from soleplate. | Temperature too low for steam; overfilled water tank. | Increase temperature; do not overfill water tank. |
| Iron sticks to fabric. | Soleplate is dirty; temperature too high for fabric. | Clean soleplate; adjust temperature setting. |
