2. Safety Information

Always adhere to safety precautions when using electrical testing equipment. This multimeter meets CAT III 600V safety standards and is equipped with double fuses (F400mA/250V and F10A/250V) for overload protection across all ranges.

  • Do not attempt to measure voltages or currents exceeding the specified maximum limits.
  • Ensure test leads are properly connected and in good condition before each use.
  • Always select the correct measurement function and range before connecting the multimeter to a circuit.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The KM100S requires 2 AAA batteries (included). To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
  3. Use a small screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  4. Insert the 2 AAA batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-).
  5. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

4.2 Test Lead Connection

Connect the test leads to the appropriate input jacks based on the desired measurement:

  • Always connect the black test lead to the COM (Common) jack.
  • For voltage, resistance, continuity, diode, and capacitance measurements, connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack.
  • For direct current measurements up to 10A, connect the red test lead to the 10A jack.

5. Operating Modes

Turn the function dial to select the desired measurement mode.

5.1 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

Use this mode to measure alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) voltage. Connect the red lead to VΩmA and the black lead to COM.

5.2 DC Current Measurement

Measure direct current (DC) flowing through a circuit. Note: This multimeter cannot be used to measure AC current. Connect the red lead to the 10A jack (for up to 10A) or VΩmA (for milliamps/microamps) and the black lead to COM.

5.3 Resistance, Continuity, Diode, and Capacitance

The KM100S offers various modes for comprehensive electrical testing:

  • Resistance (Ω): Measures the opposition to current flow in a circuit.
  • Continuity (Continuity symbol): Checks for a complete circuit path with an audible beep.
  • Diode (Diode symbol): Tests the functionality of diodes.
  • Capacitance: Measures the ability of a component to store an electrical charge.

5.4 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV)

The NCV function allows you to detect AC voltage without direct contact, providing an audible alert and visible display when voltage is present. This is useful for quickly identifying live wires.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the multimeter casing with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.2 Fuse Replacement

The multimeter is protected by double fuses (F400mA/250V and F10A/250V). If the multimeter fails to function correctly, especially in current measurement modes, the fuses may need replacement. Refer to the battery installation section for instructions on opening the casing to access the fuses.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Display/Faint Display: Check battery installation and replace batteries if low.
  • Incorrect Readings: Ensure the correct function is selected, test leads are properly connected, and leads are not damaged.
  • No Continuity Beep: Verify the continuity mode is selected and the circuit is complete. Check fuses if current measurement is also affected.
