- 4-pin XLR Headphone Output: Balanced headphone jack for compatible headphones.
3. Rear Panel Connections

Figure 3: Rear Panel Connections. This image illustrates the rear panel of the Midgard, detailing the various input and output ports, including balanced XLR and single-ended RCA connections, and the power input.
- Balanced Inputs (XLR): Connect audio sources with balanced XLR outputs.
- Single-Ended Inputs (RCA): Connect audio sources with single-ended RCA outputs.
- Balanced Preamp Outputs (XLR): Connect to power amplifiers or active speakers with balanced XLR inputs.
- Single-Ended Preamp Outputs (RCA): Connect to power amplifiers or active speakers with single-ended RCA inputs.
- AC Power Input: Connect the provided power cable. The unit operates on 115VAC only and is designed for use in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
4. Connecting Your System
- Ensure the Midgard unit is powered off and unplugged.
- Connect your audio source (e.g., DAC, streamer) to the desired input on the rear panel (Balanced XLR or Single-Ended RCA).
- If using headphones, connect them to either the 1/4" TRS or 4-pin XLR output on the front panel.
- If using the preamp function, connect the Balanced XLR or Single-Ended RCA preamp outputs to your power amplifier or active speakers.
- Connect the power cable to the AC Power Input on the rear panel, then plug it into a 115VAC wall outlet.
Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off
To power on the Midgard, ensure all connections are secure, then flip the power switch located on the rear panel. To power off, flip the switch back to the off position.
2. Adjusting Volume
Rotate the large knob on the front panel clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease volume. Start with the volume at its lowest setting before playing audio to prevent sudden loud sounds.
3. Selecting Gain Level
The Midgard features two gain levels. Use the gain switches on the front panel to select the appropriate gain for your headphones. Lower gain is suitable for sensitive headphones, while higher gain provides more power for less sensitive or high-impedance headphones.
4. Using as a Headphone Amplifier
Connect your headphones to either the 1/4" TRS or 4-pin XLR output. The Midgard delivers nearly 5W into 32 ohms, providing ample power for most headphones. Ensure your headphones are compatible with the selected output type.
5. Using as a Preamp
The Midgard can also function as a preamp. Connect its balanced or single-ended preamp outputs to a power amplifier or active speakers. The volume knob controls the output level for both headphones and preamp outputs simultaneously.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Schiit Midgard, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
- Ventilation: Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation. Do not block the ventilation holes on the top or sides of the chassis.
