Regular maintenance ensures the continued reliability of your alarm.

4.1 Battery Replacement

Replace the 9V battery immediately when the alarm chirps once every minute, indicating a low battery. Refer to Section 2.1 for battery installation instructions.

4.2 Cleaning

Clean your alarm regularly to prevent dust and debris from interfering with its operation. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust from the alarm's vents. Do not paint the alarm or use cleaning solvents.

4.3 Regular Testing

Test your alarm weekly by pressing and holding the Test/Silence button until the alarm sounds. This confirms the electronic circuitry and horn are functioning correctly.

5. Troubleshooting

If your alarm is not functioning as expected, consult the following common issues.

  • Alarm chirps once every minute: The battery is low and needs to be replaced.
  • Alarm sounds intermittently without smoke or CO: This may be a nuisance alarm. Ensure the alarm is not installed near cooking fumes, high humidity areas, or strong drafts. Press the Test/Silence button to temporarily silence it.
  • Alarm does not sound during test: Ensure the battery is correctly installed and fully charged. If the issue persists, the unit may need replacement.
  • Alarm sounds continuously: Evacuate the premises immediately and call emergency services. Do not re-enter until authorities have deemed it safe.
