Installation (Setup)
The ARRMA Rod End Set is a replacement or upgrade part. Installation typically involves replacing existing worn or damaged rod ends on your ARRMA RC vehicle. Refer to your specific vehicle's instruction manual for detailed assembly diagrams and steps.
- Identify the Rod Ends to Replace: Locate the rod ends on your RC vehicle that require replacement. These are commonly found on suspension links, steering linkages, and sway bar connections.
- Disassembly: Carefully remove the screw or pin securing the old rod end to its respective component (e.g., shock absorber, steering knuckle, suspension arm). Note the orientation and any shims or spacers.
- Remove Old Rod End: Unscrew the old rod end from the threaded rod or turnbuckle. Pay attention to the length of the threaded portion inserted into the rod end, as this affects the overall link length.
- Install New Rod End: Thread the new ARRMA rod end onto the rod or turnbuckle. Ensure it is threaded to the same depth as the old one to maintain original link geometry.
- Reassembly: Attach the new rod end to its component using the original screw or pin. Ensure all connections are secure but not overtightened, allowing for free movement.
- Check for Free Movement: After installation, articulate the suspension and steering to ensure there is no binding and all components move freely.
Tip: Applying a small amount of threadlock (non-permanent) to metal-to-metal screw connections can prevent loosening during operation, but avoid applying it to the rod end threads themselves.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your rod ends will prolong their lifespan and ensure optimal performance of your RC vehicle.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect rod ends for signs of wear, cracks, or excessive play. Worn rod ends can lead to sloppy handling and reduced performance.
- Cleaning: After use, especially in dirty or dusty conditions, clean the rod ends to remove debris. A soft brush and compressed air can be effective. Avoid harsh chemicals that may degrade the plastic.
- Lubrication: The ball pivot inside the rod end typically does not require lubrication. However, ensure the pivot point remains free of grit.
- Replacement: Replace rod ends immediately if they show significant wear, damage, or if the ball pivot becomes loose within the housing.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Excessive play in linkage | Worn rod end ball or housing | Replace the rod end. |
| Linkage binding/stiff movement | Dirt/debris in rod end; overtightened screw | Clean rod end; loosen screw slightly (ensure still secure). |
| Rod end pops off frequently | Worn rod end; incorrect installation; excessive force | Replace rod end; ensure proper installation; check for bent components. |
