Model: CT2000T500SSD5

Introduction

The Crucial T500 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD is designed for high-performance storage needs, suitable for PlayStation 5, laptops, and desktop PCs. It features sequential read speeds up to 7,400MB/s and write speeds up to 7,000MB/s, enhancing game loading, video editing, and multitasking. This model includes an integrated heatsink for optimal thermal management and is compatible with PlayStation 5 size and performance requirements. It also supports Microsoft DirectStorage for improved game performance.

Setup and Installation

This section provides instructions for installing your Crucial T500 SSD, particularly focusing on PlayStation 5 installation. Always ensure your device is powered off and unplugged before beginning any installation.

1. Prepare Your PlayStation 5

Place your PlayStation 5 horizontally with the disc drive (if applicable) facing the top-left. This orientation is crucial for correctly removing the cover.

2. Remove the PS5 Cover

Grip the bottom-right corner of the PS5 cover and pull it forcefully while sliding it towards the left. The cover should detach with relative ease. It may take a few attempts to get accustomed to the motion.

3. Access the M.2 SSD Slot

Locate the M.2 SSD expansion slot. You will need a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw securing the cover of the expansion slot. Carefully remove the screw and the cover, ensuring not to drop the screw into the console's fan area.

4. Install the Crucial T500 SSD

Inside the M.2 slot, you will find a standoff and a screw. Remove the screw from the standoff. Identify the correct screw hole for your SSD's length (the Crucial T500 is a standard 2280 form factor). Place the SSD into the slot, ensuring the gold contacts align correctly. The SSD should sit at an angle. Gently push down the SSD and secure it with the screw you removed earlier, using the standoff. Finger-tightening is sufficient; do not overtighten.

5. Reattach the Covers

Replace the M.2 SSD slot cover and secure it with its screw. Then, align the main PS5 cover with the console, ensuring the disc drive slot is correctly positioned. Slide the cover back into place until it clicks securely.

6. Initial Setup and Formatting

After installation, power on your PlayStation 5. The console will detect the new M.2 SSD and prompt you to format it. Follow the on-screen instructions to format the drive. This process will erase all data on the SSD, so ensure it is a new or empty drive. Do not turn off your PS5 or remove the M.2 SSD during formatting.
