4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The Byte headlamp operates on 2 AAA batteries. To install or replace batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the headlamp unit.
  2. Open the compartment by gently prying the latch or sliding the cover as indicated by the markings.
  3. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals align correctly with the indicators inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment securely until you hear a click or feel it snap into place. Ensure a tight seal to maintain water resistance.

4.2 Headband Adjustment

The elastic headband is adjustable to fit various head sizes or to be worn over hats. To adjust:

  • Slide the buckle on the elastic strap to tighten or loosen the headband until it fits comfortably and securely on your head.
  • The headlamp unit can be tilted up or down to direct the light beam. Gently pivot the light housing to achieve the desired angle.

5. Operation

The Princeton Tec Byte features a single button for controlling power and modes.

5.1 Power On/Off

  • To turn the headlamp ON, press the power button once.
  • To turn the headlamp OFF, press and hold the power button for approximately 2 seconds.

5.2 Switching Modes

The Byte headlamp offers multiple light modes, including white high, white low, red high, and red low. To cycle through the modes:

  • With the headlamp ON, quickly press the power button repeatedly to cycle through the available light modes. The sequence typically starts with the red light, then progresses to white light settings.
  • The red light mode is often the first mode activated to preserve night vision.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the headlamp body with a damp cloth to remove dirt or debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the battery compartment is clean and dry before closing to prevent corrosion.

6.2 Battery Care

  • Replace batteries when the light output becomes dim or inconsistent.
  • If storing the headlamp for an extended period (more than a few weeks), remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the unit.

6.3 Storage

  • Store the headlamp in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Light does not turn on:

  • Light is dim or flickers:

  • Headlamp does not cycle through modes:
    • Ensure the button is being pressed quickly and released.
