Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 Turntable with OM 5E Cartridge (Gloss Black) Instruction Manual

Model: Juke Box E1

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 Turntable with OM 5E Cartridge. Please read this manual thoroughly before using your new turntable to ensure proper function and longevity of the device. The Juke Box E1 is an all-in-one music system designed for effortless vinyl enjoyment, combining a turntable, phono stage, Bluetooth receiver, line preamplifier, and power amplifier in one compact unit.

What's in the Box

Carefully unpack all items and ensure you have received the following components:

  • Juke Box E Turntable
  • Special feet for effective decoupling
  • Acrylic lid
  • IR remote control

Setup

The Pro-Ject Juke Box E1 is designed for ease of use, featuring a pre-mounted cartridge and factory-calibrated tonearm. However, some assembly and adjustments are required for optimal performance.

1. Turntable Placement and Leveling

Place the turntable on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and strong vibrations. Use the adjustable feet to ensure the turntable is perfectly level. A small bubble level (not included) can assist with this process.

2. Platter and Belt Installation

Carefully place the platter onto the spindle. Locate the drive belt and gently stretch it around the platter and the motor pulley. Ensure the belt is not twisted. Rotate the platter a few times by hand to self-center the belt.

3. Counterweight and Headshell Installation

The OM 5E cartridge is pre-mounted. Slide the counterweight onto the tonearm with the numbers facing forward. Attach the headshell by inserting it into the tonearm socket and carefully rotating the headshell locking ring counterclockwise until it is secure.

4. Tonearm Balancing, Tracking Force, and Anti-Skate Adjustment

While the Juke Box E1 comes with a factory-set tracking force and anti-skate, it is good practice to understand these adjustments. The tonearm should be balanced so it floats horizontally. The tracking force for the OM 5E cartridge is typically 1.75g. Adjust the anti-skate dial to match the tracking force value.

5. Dust Cover Installation

Install the hinges onto the dust cover, then carefully place the dust cover onto the turntable.

6. Power Connections

Connect the AC power adapter to the turntable's DC 12V input and then plug it into a convenient AC outlet.

7. Audio Connections

The Juke Box E1 is an all-in-one system with a built-in amplifier. Connect your speakers directly to the speaker terminals on the rear of the unit. For external audio sources, use the appropriate line inputs (e.g., CD, Aux) or connect via Bluetooth.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

Use the power switch located on the bottom of the unit to turn the turntable on or off. For optimal performance and to avoid potential popping sounds, it is recommended to use the remote control to power down the unit first, then switch off the main power.

2. Playing Records

Place a record on the platter. Select the desired speed (33 or 45 RPM) using the switch. Lift the tonearm using the cueing lever, position it over the record, and gently lower it. The turntable will begin playing. To stop, lift the tonearm, return it to its rest, and use the stop button or remote.

3. Input Selection

Use the input selector on the front panel or the remote control to switch between different audio sources: Phono (for vinyl playback), Line 1, Line 2, or Bluetooth.

4. Volume and Tone Controls

Adjust the volume using the rotary knob on the front panel or the remote control. The Juke Box E1 also features built-in tone controls and loudness adjustment for personalized listening, accessible via the remote and onboard display.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your turntable.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, anti-static cloth to clean the turntable chassis and dust cover. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Stylus Care: Gently clean the stylus regularly with a soft brush designed for stylus cleaning, brushing from back to front.
  • Record Care: Keep your records clean and free of dust to prevent damage to both the records and the stylus.
  • Dust Cover: The acrylic lid protects the turntable when not in use. It should remain off when records are playing to prevent unwanted vibrations.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Juke Box E1, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Turntable Not Turning: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the turntable and the AC outlet. Check the power switch on the bottom of the unit. Verify the drive belt is correctly installed around the platter and motor pulley.
  • No Sound or Low Volume: Check all audio connections to your speakers. Ensure the correct input source is selected on the turntable. Verify the volume level is adequately set.
  • Distorted Sound: Check that the stylus is clean and free of debris. Ensure the tracking force and anti-skate settings are correct. Verify the record is clean and free of scratches.
  • Skipping: Ensure the turntable is placed on a stable, level surface. Check the tracking force and anti-skate settings. Inspect the stylus for damage or wear.
  • Humming Noise: Ensure the ground wire (if used with an external phono preamp) is properly connected. Check all cable connections for secure fit.
